Hi guys. I'm getting pretty pessimistic about the 2016 election and am thinking about prepping for a banic.

I see a bunch of $50 lowers running around, and ammo seems to have settled down to a pretty reasonable price as well. As far as resale value, would lowers or ammo be the better investment?

I'm thinking that if you buy a bunch of lowers in order to sell to turn a profit, you may need an FFL.
I always thought that buying a bunch of different types of magazines, especially AD's would be a good idea.

Ammo is usually more difficult to sell (and you usually have to sell in bulk to make it worthwhile for the buyer - few people will be interested in buying just one box of 20 or 50, they'll be interested in buying 500 to 1,000 rounds at a time).

During the last big panic, lowers saw a pretty large increase in price and would be a decent "investment" (none of this is investing, its speculating) especially considering that you can build it if you decide to at a later date.

If I were speculating and trying to profit off the next panic, I'd go with AR or AK mags. No FFL issues to deal with (don't have to make sure the receiving FFL will accept from an individual, and you don't have to ship it through a FFL on your end) and they're relatively inexpensive at the moment.

And in six months people will be wondering why they can't find any lowers or ammo......

Yep. Mags.

I recall bolts and some barrels getting hard to find last time.

What with last weeks announcements I wouldn't buy firearms with the intent of selling them.

You could gamble on some 80% lowers. I also recall during the last run on AR's, after the cheap lowers dried up, 80% lowers went for decent prices.

Does anyone recall how much entry level (Anderson or similar) stripped lowers were going for in the post-Sandy Hook madness?

1. As said, if you're "investing" in lowers for resale later, you need an FFL - plain and simple. You can do that with accessories without an FFL though.

2. If a GOP candidate wins you're going to be stuck with a lot of stuff you can't resell.

3. If the Republicans hold control of the house OR the senate in 2016 even if they don't win the white house, then the chance of new legislation is very, very low. The prices will come back down.

Yes, yes, I know. I have pretty much decided lowers are a bad idea for me to speculate on simply due to needing to do the FFL dance. I ask mostly out of curiosity, as I was not paying attention to AR related stuff at that time.
