Ozonics have you tried it

I have been a successful deer hunter for almost 50 years and every year I bring home a mature buck but I have a young friend who has been getting larger bucks with larger antlers and although we are not in competition it makes me wonder what he is doing. He has been trying to get me to buy a Ozonics unit to help and that may well be the answer. For years I tried every way to keep from putting corn out, using game cameras, and shooting Berger bullets with long range rifles but the competition has forced me to change my methods. Now I'm thinking about Ozonics. This is getting rediculous and I dam sure won't sit in a plywood box.

I've given mine every test I have had the opportunity to, from long oak bottoms to fields with non thinned plantation pines all the way around field ( being 300yrds long x 65yrds across shooting house on north end). No one could hunt this field if wind was even a little bit out of north . I could with the ozonics machine sitting in window or on top of house .Deer acted like no one was there even as close as 5'. Just before dark , field full of deer , I would turn it off & within 15 seconds field would be empty. Same with oak bottom . if you haven't tried one you have no idea how many more choices of stands you have when you use it . I do not receive anything from ozonics ,mine was a Christmas gift 3years ago . I almost do not hunt without it now

Within 15 seconds of turning it off, the field previously full of deer would be empty? A field 300 yards by 65 yards?

So let's say the deer smell everything from 6 feet down to ground level (2 yards) and are in a field 300x65 yards, or basically 39,000 cubic yards. So that itty bitty little machine was protecting your smell from 39,000 cubic yards all of that protection disappeared inside of 15 seconds and your smell disseminated a across 39,000 cubic yards.

That does seem overly unrealistic.

No, I have not tried one, particular because of claims such as this. I have noticed that the pros only seem to use them when Ozonics is sponsoring them.

It is illegal to use inPA.

Not sure why. Its actually discussed a lot over at Archery Talk and HuntingPA.net. PGC hasnt given a clear answer why.

Okay, so you have a field 300x65 yards or 900x195 feet. Winds at 5 mph or 7.33 fps. We are going with 5 mph as that favors the claim you are making.

In 15 seconds, your loss of coverage traveled roughly 110 feet down wind in one direction only, covering only a small fraction of the 175500 square feet of the field.

At 3 mph, the coverage was only lost for 66 feet, just 22 yards.

To (un)cover 900 feet in 15 seconds, you would need 41 mph winds.

If they all took off in 15 seconds...I'd guess they either saw you moving when you went to turn it off, or they spooked on something else. We might be looking at a simple case of "causation" vs "correlation". In other words, they may have indeed left after you turned it off...but you turning it off had nothing to do with why they actually left.

Many times as hunters we believe we are the only thing that might spook deer we are hunting. I remember stalking a set of woods one day and as I eased through a draw toward a ridge, a group of doe on the ridge got alarmed. They all started blowing an carrying on, I couldn't figure out how they had busted me. I figured the hunt was over.

As I stood behind the tree trying to figure out my next move, the whole group of them dropped off the ridge and came right at me. The crotch of the tree split about 5 feet off the ground, so I could stand behind it, but look right through. They all passed, single file, 5 feet away from me next to the tree I was behind.

I thought they spooked on me, I was sure of it, but after they walked right into my lap it was obvious that something else spooked them off that ridge. It was an interesting lesson to absorb.

I bet shooting a deer illuminated by a flashlight is illegal.

I was referring to walking in with a flashlight during hours of darkness.

It happened the same way in that field twice & once in long oak bottom . the closest deer to me could have caused the sudden exit .I am not the only one to hunt there so I don't know what deer have been exposed to .I can tell you that you cannot get clean enough , or wear enough clothes to keep a downwind deer from smelling you ,& I sat in those places for hours without being scented until I turned it off. I'm an experienced bow hunter with 4 entries in AL record book I'm not deer stupid

Be that as it may, the events that you describe do not fit the mathematics of what the machine would theoretically be capable of doing. So even if the machine destroyed your scent as your scent molecules passed through the stream of air made by the machine, the untreated scent molecules that blew from your body after the machine was turned off did not have time to reach the deer very far away in the field. Distant deer could NOT have smelled you. They would have been completely unaffected by you turning off the machine in regard to smelling you.

...or one deer ten feet away catches wind and they ALL see that tail go up and bolt.
