I noticed that Magpul PMAG fot the Glock 17 run about $15. With factory Glock mags as low as $20 each, is there a compelling reason to get the Magpul version? I could see if Glock mags were $45 and Magpul mags were $15.

I have yet to see an aftermarket mag be more reliable than a factory mag.

About the ONLY reason I could imagine is that the Magpul mags are easier to take apart(the Glock ones SUCK in that area), but I don't see that as a compelling reason.

Not unless you consider saving five bucks per mag to be particularly compelling. There's certainly nothing wrong with the factory mags.

I didn't know Magpul made the PMAG for Glocks... are they new?

ETA: Looks like the only "improvement" Magpul made is adding a bit of a grip area to the sides for stripping a stuck mag. Sorta solves a problem that Glock already addressed, though. That's what the hollow back part of the grip is for (thumb in the hollow part, index finger wrapped around the front of the mag). Some guys ruin that benefit by using a grip plug, I guess. Oh well.

About a year old. The very first generation had some problems. They've since been updated and fixed.

While I think Magpul is a good company, if I were a Glock shooter I'd probably stick with Glock mags unless I just couldn't get them anywhere else.

I have several and they have (so far) been every bit as reliable as my Glock factory mags. No witness holes though, that's the only downside if you care about that. I'll take a $5 savings where I can, as long as I don't give up reliability

Please share a link to where you are buying Glock mags for $20 each.

Im still buying the Korean 17 mags from Wideners for $8. $15 doesnt sound all that great. :)

Not really.

They once said something along the lines of, during the early Pmag days, that they can run three shifts and crank out zillions of polymer mags in just a month, should the .gov threaten another high-cap mag ban. Which is pretty cool.

It would make them billionaires, and we'd have plenty of pre-ban mags available making any such law useless.

Don't know if there's a reason to get them, but their existence keeps Glock from raising prices on their mags.

I'm sure when somebody runs a sale on the Magpul mags for $10, they'll sell out very quickly.

Magpul did announce and had on display at SHOT this month 21 round and 27 round Glock Pmags. I think the price was $20 for the 21rd mag and 22 for the 27 rd mag. I think the 27 rd mag's price beats Glock's extended 9mm mags so long as they prove reliable.

If you can get Glock mags for $20 and Magpul Glock magazines for $15...I'd probably get the Glock brand. They have witness holes in the back that allow counting precisely how many rounds are in the magazine, the Magpul only has one hole showing full capacity and that's it.

However, the magpul baseplate allows for better grip, such as when removing a magazine that my be sticking in the magwell or stuck due to a jam or malfunction of some kind.

For $5 difference I would just get the Glock. But then I think, well, for the price of 3 Glock I could 4 Magpul...hmmmm.

Get some of both. Test and then carry some of the Glock brand, being nice to them, and put a couple Glock brand away in a safe place, and then do most of your range time and hard use dropping etc with the Magpul...then you can afford more of them and load them before going to the range.

I have a couple glock pmags. I trust the ar pmags, and I have found no reason not to trust these. I will buy more, especially when the higher capacity ones are available. Why not save a few bucks, you're still getting a top quality, and reliable product.

whereas I think.. Factory Glock mags are one of the most reliable mags ever made. Why cheap out saving a couple bucks.

Well...I don't think Magpul magazines really qualify as cheaping out. They aren't cheap, they are simply less expensive.

About a quarter of my Glock mags don't drop free. If magpuls actually do I'll buy them instead. I've tried all the recommended fixes. Annoying.

For the savings, I'd stick with the factory Glock mag. Why bother with the question of which is better? Factory mags have worked forever. Now if factory mags were $45, different story.
