Just a note, went to my local gun show here in south central PA and saw for the first time in 4yrs W231. It was an 8lb jug. Take a guess the price ?

$ 200

I passed.

I would have thought hard about grabbing it that's what like 25 bucks a pound at this point I'd rather pay a little more and have it than the opposite side of the coin and not have it

I'm in NE PA and have been seeing HP-38 on a regular basis for about $22.00/pound. I haven't seen any 8 pounders yet.

$200 for 8 lbs doesn't strike me as that bad considering the prices a while back were 2,take it or leave it. I picked up 8 lbs of Red Dot near the end of 2014 for $160. At that time in my area any powder that could be used in 9mm,38,45 acp etc were almost non existent.

$164.00 plus tax for a 8Lb container of HP38 (AKA W231) of recent manufacture purchased locally at an indoor range facility.

If you need the powder, the price isn't that bad. If we get a Democrat in the White House and things hit the fan again, you'll kick yourself for not paying a little more and having the powder. BTW, what is your time worth looking to save a dollar or two a pound?

I found an 8# jug of that in Idaho for $200 a few months ago. Bought it. Depending on what you want and what's available, that's not a bad price. Capitalism is what it is.

Considering that a dollar is only worth about 10 cents now.....

That much? :rolleyes::D:D

If you need W231, you buy it. If you don't need it, then you don't.

I really don't expect to see lower (read: 'old') prices anymore. It's 2016, everything costs more and is continuing to increase...

Didn't lose any time , and doub't will kick myself as i'm sittin on 10lbs+ of HP38. I was just passing along an FYI as I know a lot of other guys seem to prefer the 231.

I got an 8 pounder of Win 748 about 2 weeks ago from a large, popular LGS in southcentral PA, probably same one you are referring to. Price was $200. I did not even look at the price when I picked it up off the shelf, but was kind of shocked when I looked at the receipt out in the car and realized what I'd just paid (I got a bunch of other stuff so the total was pretty high). I was mad at first, but then figured that if I'd bought online, and paid for shipping plus hazmat it would have come out to pretty close to that $200 per 8 pounds anyway. Sure, I could have bought more and spread those ship+hazmat fees out, but still would have had to pay the price to get what I wanted. I have been through several of these shortages/panics, and have learned long ago to buy what you can when you can so I can be worry-free during the panics and in the end, I don't really care much about the price (within reason).

I picked up a 4 pounder of 231 for $73 about a month back. I would have paid $100 for it since i never get to see the stuff anymore!

Last time I bought W231 was just before the crunch and I bought it for $64/4lb jug. Anything over $20/lb these days I would consider too high. I would buy a 1lb jug for $24 if I needed it but you are supposed to get a discount for buying the big jug.

I visited a shop yesterday and all their powder was at least $30 a pound. For pistol cartridges, that's only about a penny a piece difference than if the powder was about $16-20 a pound. I have so much I can afford to be picky.

Thats about right,I paid 190 for 8 pounds of IMR 4064 in November. hdbiker

I just opened my last 8 pounder of H335 last month and finished it last week. It still had the $97 price tag on it. Been crying ever since as I think about replacing it. Still have an 8lb keg of W231 to open.
