From what I have seen the 50 BMG is up there for the "I did it" folks. Full auto always brings a smile to the face of a new gal or guy but most of the time they want to do it again.

3.5" Bazoka. (Old pepper face!)

LAW rocket. ( New pepper-face!)

M-79 grenade launcher. (Shoots & Grins when things blow up!)

106 mm Recoiless Rifle!! (You will swear you just blew up until you take count of all your limbs & digits!)

My son was turret gunner with a 50 browning and a 240B on his armored truck in afghanistan. I would love to rip a few belts off with either of them. A multibarreled mini gun would also rank right up there for me. The 25mm, I think they are called chain guns someone correct me if I am wrong, on the Bradley apc would also be neat.

Well, the term "Chain Gun" is a trademark of Hughes, which is now part of McDonnel-Douglas, IIRC, and is made in a number of calibers. The cannon on the nose of the AH-64 Apache Gunship is a "ChainGun."
The term is derived from how it operates. They are electrically powered machineguns/cannons and there is a "chain" --- like a hulked-out bicycle chain that circles the receiver. There is a cam on it that alternatly opens and closes the bolt, which like other machineguns chambers, fires and ejects the rounds that are fed into it.
The beauty of it being electricpowered over gas powered is that the operator has a control that varies the speed of the firing; they can truly RIP through rounds, or can be fired rather slowly.
The guns have a good reputation for being pretty accurate for the type of guns they are.

short barreled 12ga shotgun is a BLAST, I have shot my share of stuff but the one that was my favorite was a 14in 12GA pump with 00 Buck or Slugs

I have been fortunate to have shot most of the weapons mentioned here but the mother of all guns for me would be a 16" gun on a battle ship.

It will never happen but I can dream of being in charge of the fire control system and send a ton of steel moving about the same speed as a 750gr 50 BMG round.:cool::cool:

I submit...the .45 cal flintlock Kentucky rifle.

It would make the shooter fully aware of just how good we have it today!

the list is long...brass cartridge, semi auto, mag fed, 16" barrel, smokeless powder....accuracy as far out as you can afford

Just sayin'...we have it GOOD and a flint lock would point that out very well!

I love the modern gun.

Cannonman, what you were told about was the CIWS (pronounced see-whizz). Close In Weapons System. Misspent my youth at sea and we had those aboard a few boats owned by my rich uncle. U.S.S. John F. Kennedy and U.S.S. Carl Vinson (CV67 and CVN70) were home for a while.

It's basically a radar guided gatling gun that spits out 4,500 rounds per minute. Doesn't even sound like rounds outbound. More like a belch after a bad meal. I'll PM you the nickname, as it's a bit vulgar.

Hand cranked 45-70 Gatlin gun
Sharps 45-70
Trapdoor 45-70
All in black powder

Garand (of course)
M1 Carbine
USGI 1911
M14
FN-FAL
Broomhandle Mauser
Luger
Webley revolver
Springfield 03A3
Mauser 98
SMLE
Mosin Nagant (so you'll know how NOT to design a bolt action rifle)
Colt SAA
Winchester lever action
Remington rolling block in 32 rimfire

Don't expect many to agree with me on this, but to me, shooting is shooting. Doesn't really matter what I'm shooting; I'm generally having as much fun doing it regardless of the platform. Could be a $50 airgun, a $500 pistol, or a $1000+ MSR. I've found ways to make each of them equally enjoyable (and usually in similar ways, strangely).

Only gun I ever shot that made me think, "Wow, now THAT is cool," was an AK47. But that's because I was really infatuated with the platform growing up. I don't think most people would find it nearly as fulfilling as I did lol.

Haha. I never fired the 106, but I have fired the 90mm recoiless and understand exactly what you're saying. Regardless how tight you keep your lips together and clench your teeth, you still end up with a mouth full of dirt. It was always a riot to watch a first timer shoot that thing.

I think everyone should shoot a flintlock, it'll give you a new appreciation for modern centerfire guns.

At one of my NRA classes:

"What is it called when there's a perceptibly delay between pulling the trigger and the gun firing?"

"A flintlock!" (from the peanut gallery... real answer is a hangfire for anyone wondering)

You could tell from the laughter who in the room had ever fired one.

Matt

My two favorites of all I've shot are still my Winchester 94 lever action followed closely by my 7.62x39 bolt action that is so easy to shoot and stupid-accurate.
