I have ~7000 rounds through mine. Needs occasional extractor tuning, but so do the rest of my 1911s. They come with a titanium .38-super firing pin. I guess it's to prevent drop-fire.

That is way too nice a pistol to use as a car gun. It is worth somewhere between $600 and $750, depending upon your local 1911 market. I noticed that the thumb safety is an older GI one, consistent with SA using some GI surplus parts at the beginning. As such, the thumb safety may have some additional value.

The grips are probably not original as I am not aware of SA shipping guns with Pachmayr grips during the time it was made.

If I were to have a car gun, it would be something much easier to replace and more robust against the elements, like a Glock.

[eta] That pistol is way too early to have come from SA with a titanium firing pin. [/eta]

Forgot you asked about value. Mine was 600 new in 2007. Current MSRP on the Mil-Spec is 719. I don't know about the street price; Davidson's is out of them at the moment so I can't look it up.

This is my original Springfield Armory M1911 A1, obtained new when they first came out. I think the initial retail price was $249, then shortly after that they went up to like $279 or $289. Definitely worth a whole lot more today.

Yea, I don't think they are worth a ton (But what do I know), but I do know mine has been 100% reliable over decades of use. Bought it cheap used.

I have 2 of them . One made in 2002 that I bought new for $400 and one that I bought new last year that was $749. They have went up drasticaly in price .I love them and they run great. They are great guns. Plus they are series 70 so thats a plus .
I say there is no cons , only pros !

I think it was around 1988 or 1989. Yeah they were very popular not just for fans of the 1911 (especially back then when Colt was pretty much the only game in town for new 1911s), but also to a lot of gunsmiths who found that they were a great buy for the money for customizing.

WOW , I was 16 years old in 89 !!!! I wish I had gave my Mom money to buy me a few back then !!!!!! I was dumb and into cars and engines then .

Remove those grips and check under them So people install and never remove might be rust or crawly powder creatures :what: . Ibout them and then trashed them Not good for carry the cling to shirts. learn to shoot with real grips
