Frog Lube is Coconut oil.

So who's a member and can post the analysis graphs? This one is worse than Fire Clean. Or maybe I feel this way because of all the people that pushed it hard.

IMO, it got "pushed" due to the word "frog" being in its name and therefore implying the ever-so-holy SEAL endorsement. Personally, I use lithium grease for less than $2 a tube from auto zone.

Yeah, me too. When I find a good deal on BreakFree, I pick it up because it's always handy to have a bottle at the range. But my normal lube comes from the automotive department. Lithium grease when i want grease and motor oil mixed with transmission fluid when I want liquid lube.

I do tend to use actual solvents, though. I'm a fan of Shooter's Choice. Works well and made ten miles from my house.

No no no! It is actually essence of frog.

Here in the swamp we keep a bunch of frogs caged up with plenty of bugs to eat. Every time we need to lube a gun we grab one and rub it all over the gun parts (you know the slime)

We then thank Mr Frog give him a treat and put him back in the cage. No frogs are hurt in the process as we like to be GREEN and frogs are a good indicator of the condition of the eco systems.

;)

Awe, I thought they put a bunch of frogs into a vegamatic and ran the machine for about a hour!:D

There's got to be a better way.. I like the lithium grease too and Ive got a lifetime supply hooked to my grease gun. Does just any clean coconut oil work?

That's Dan Aykoyd and the Bass O Matic!:D

Some classic stuff.:) These days we must prevent the unneeded death of Frogs.

It's all snake oil anyway.

All gun lubes are either a food or petroleum oil derivative, no?

Frog lube works fine for me when I use it. Even down here on the gulf coast I don't have any problem with rust on my guns whether I'm using rem oil or frog lube. Personally, I'm glad to learn that it is mostly coconut oil. Confirms that I can use it safely with bare hands and around my kids and it smells better too.

Hah,
My glass half full side is glad to hear that. Never tried frog lube, now I know if I want to, I can heat up some coconut oil, add some mint extract, and give it a whirl.
Frog lube just got a lot cheaper for me!
I've been meaning to get a jug of coconut oil anyways for the kitchen

Frog lube is "marketing" to unknowing consumers. that's all it is. Just like STP did in the 60s. Using a food product on your guns is like using Hoppe's in your cooking.

I don't really know about that, I have never used frog lube but coconut oil is pretty solid at room temperature. I don't thing it would make that great of a gun lube would seem to me they add more than just fragrance, maybe not much more but I sure wouldn't eat it! Lol

So it used coconut oil.

Coconut oil has been used as an industrial lubricant at least as far back as the British Industrial Revolution. It's even used as a bio diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid, etc.

The real question here is "Does Frog Lube work as a gun lubricant?"

If it does...big deal.

Why not use Extra Virgin olive oil? It has a very high burn temp.

Heck in the old days they used whale oil for lamps and lubrication.

Any oil will work if you keep enough on there.

Most of the gun oils before the GREEN thing contained PTFE (Teflon) the oil part was just a carrying agent,

Transmission fluid is excellent although I hate the smell of it,

I would think olive oil would be better and easier to use. The coconut oil in my house is almost always solid. Maybe olive for lube applications and coco oil for grease applications.

If we were all so smart, why do our guns still rust, and get dirty? One would think that we'd have figured all of this out decades ago, and be using our own secret sauce.

I don't care if a product is hydrogenated salamander urine, as long as it works. I try to purchase results, not worrying about "what it's made of". These exposes' all seem to try to denigrate a product, but for what reason?

I have been posting this in gun forums for as long as I have been participating in gun forums, and on USENET before that. A National Guard armorer I used to shoot with told me the ultimate gun lube was:

2 parts ATF
1 part Mobil1 synthetic oil
1 part STP

I mixed up a quart of it and put some in a little dropper bottle. 20+ years later I'm still using it and I have no real desire to use anything else.

Back on topic: I wonder if Natural Lube 1000 (or Bore Butter, or whatever it's called these days) is just coconut oil with wintergreen scent added? Seasons the bore...and a cast iron skillet.
