Im looking for a full size conceal carry handgun, any tips?

Hard to beat a Glock 19. Anything with the same capacity is bigger. Its NYPD issue so its service pistol size. Looks are so far down my carry concerns I'd need a flashlight to find it. Its supposed to be concealed. Weight matters if you are carrying all day. I would avoid all steel.

Put away your Glock brochure. The G19 is a common duty gun for LE, and now military. While designated as a "compact" by Glock, it still falls within the normal size for duty guns.

What would you call a G34, supersize? I'd consider G19 through G34/17L full size guns for this discussion.

Full-size auto for concealed carry chambered in 9mm? My vote is for a SIG Model 226-with the obvious caveat that you prefer a classic da (da to sa) pistol (which I do).

The Glock 19 is not particularly small. 15+1 capacity. There are LEO's out there with Glock 19's in their uniform patrol duty holster. OP said he doesn't want a cannon he has to lug around...for conceal carry and not lugging around a big ole gun, a Glock 19 is great.

I would also suggest an HK VP9. It's larger and more difficult to conceal than the G19 but holds the same 15+1 rounds of 9x19. It's also one hell of a sweet shooter.

There are 13,000 cops in NY carrying them on the belt. Naval special Warfare just bought a bunch. Its a service pistol by any standard.

Suggestion on full-size concealed carry gun -

DON'T DO IT.

"full-sized" and "concealed" are oxymorons.

Borrow a full-sized gun and wear it around for a day :barf:.

There's a reason they make small/light guns. Cops don't wear their duty-gun off-duty for a reason - too heavy/uncomfortable.

My suggestion if you think you need many rounds - get the smallest version of any companies double stack 9mm. Then you can use the full-sized mags if wanted.

Hence the popularity of the Glock 19. Still holds 15+1 and shoots very well with its sight radius and 4" barrel, but conceals much better than a true full size. The new Sig P320 Compact is about the same size, and just slightly below that you get 12+1 guns like the FNS9c or M&P9c, or Glock 26 with 12 round mag. Of course it gets smaller than that, but somebody who likes the idea, in theory, of carrying a full size probably wants the extra rounds of a more mid size compact at 12-16 rounds

That's nice. The OP specifically asked for tips on a full sized carry...he's not asking for smaller guns because that's not what he's interested in.

Second, a rather significant fraction of those of us who carry full sized guns concealed do so quite well. And we're quite comfortable doing so, too. So your claim to "full-sized" and "concealed" being "oxymorons is quite inaccurate and undeserving.

I'd size down from the P-09 to the P-07.

I have the P-09 and while I love it, I really would rather carry the 07.

Now, Im a firm believer that the handguns on the market perform very much the same but its small differences that make it fit an individual person, so caliber, size, recoil, Grip texture. I feel like for people like us, there are many unique people that have a liking to other handguns, certain attributes one has over the other, if they both fire 9MM, they are both reliable, They are cost effective, Then I think choosing a handgun is a persons own choice based on everything they desire and that for us civilians we can be picky, for us one handgun doesn't fit all.
I have no biased against any gun or caliber because at this point, work-energy theorem has taught main stream and popular calibers and handguns all equally equalize.

to my point,So I was looking for a gun that will work for me, I was thinking maybe a gun that has a firm grip texture, its in 9mm and looks good while not being a cannon that I have to lug around, I just think maybe something that is practical, great grip, needs to have a combat trigger for quick reaction and good iron sights that allow me to accurately transition target to target, I want to it look good :D Aesthetics are important too :p

If anyone has any good suggestions about a gun that can fit what Im looking for, that will be great.

thanks.

There are numerous "full size" to compact sized guns in 9mm that fit your very vague criteria.

firm grip texture, its in 9mm and looks good while not being a cannon that I have to lug around, I just think maybe something that is practical, great grip, needs to have a combat trigger for quick reaction and good iron sights that allow me to accurately transition target to target, I want to it look good

I honestly have never heard of a "combat trigger", and "looks good" is a little bit (a lot) subjective.

How about shrinking it down some with either some screening criteria (what you really don't want) or evaluation (what you'd like) criteria. Then maybe guys can help you. For instance:

What type of trigger/action are you looking for:

SA?
DA?
DA/SA?
LEM?

Other screening criteria;

Want an external safety?
Want a hammer??
What's your budget??

From my perspective not wanting to lug the gun around opens up the very legitimate suggestion of something not full size.

I agree with RetiredUSNChief. I carry a SIG Model 227, chambered in .45 ACP, comfortably and well-concealed in a Galco "King Tuk" iwb holster. True, there are times when I depend on a Colt Cobra revolver and even a Ruger LCP, depending on the circumstance I might find myself in, but mostly the SIG rides along with me.

I carry a Ruger 9e and love it for a winter carry for summer I carry eather a Walther ccp in 9mm or a Makarov 9x18 ( slightly smaller than a 9 Luger but bigger than a 380

True that.

However, not every full sized gun is a "cannon".

Granted, there is some leeway in what is considered a "full sized" gun, as well. But that's his interest.

I CC a Glock 17 IWB every day......not one issue.

printing isnt bad/ at all and weight is unnoticed.

i came to the realization that if i ever need to fight with my handgun to defend myself, i would rather have a gun worth fighting with........and compacts just dont do it for me........

honestly the G17 weighs about the same as my Ruger SP101 which i used to carry.......and for the same weight, i have a full sized hanfgun and 4x the capacity.

To me the Glock 19 is as close to a "perfect" handgun as you can get, but it's technically "mid-sized", even though numerous agencies issue it as the all-purpose sidearm (duty, off-duty concealed, etc.). If you wanted to have this type mid-sized frame but a longer barrel (and you're willing to think outside the box) get a Glock 17 and have the grip shortened to Glock 19 size. I call it a Glock "19L". This is my HD gun. It will use Glock 19 mags but can still use the 17 mags (or even those huge 33 rd mags). They just stick out the bottom. A G19 mag holds 15 rounds, BTW.

I have Lite weight Colt Commander 's in both 9mm and 45 acp I carry IWB under a tee shirt and have for years. Traveled in several states. Not one person or cop has ever said I see you pistol under your shirt.
I bet you could stuff a pump shot gun 18 1/2 with a pistol grip in pants . Walk with a stiff leg (motorcycle wreck story ) and no one be wiser . Till you drew it. people are in their own world not looking for your gun .

That isn't something people do, even when they notice.

Here's a few HK's that are worth putting on your list to consider.
DA/SA: HK P30 or HK P30L - combat triggers, very reliable, very accurate, high quality all around
Striker fired: HK VP9 - nice trigger, very reliable, very accurate, high quality all around
All 3 are great handguns, ergonomic with customizable grips.

Not sure if you're new to CCW or not. If so let me save you some heart ache.
When I started carrying about five years ago I started with the full size XDM 40. I carried it in a Crossbreed. But boy it was tough to hide that huge grip.
I finally got a Glock 27 and carried that for a couple years. Holy smokes it was a lot easier to conceal.
Finally two years ago I sold the 27 and bought a Glock 19 and did the short grip modification to it. So now I have a pistol with a good size slide that I can conceal like a baby Glock. So I'd highly suggest not trying to conceal a full size. The longer grips are a pain to hide. But doing short grip mods are a good compromise. I carry the short 26 mag in the gun, a spare 17/34 mag in a Crossbreed and another 26 mag in a pocket pouch. And as far as shootability. I can shoot that short grip 19 10x better than that 27 or my original XDM. That's what works for me. Might be something to look into.

I just purchased a G35 they also make a G34 in 9mm I use a remora holster and this pistol carries as good and actually its far thinner than my XD SC in 40 They say its same size as a full size 1911 but it is very comfortable so far probably harder to conceal come summer, But a sweatshirt conceals very well and I don't wear sweatshirts very big I cant stand the baggy look
