I just came across a new Beretta 92FS Two-Tone 9mm Pistol with a 4.9" barrel that seems to have reversed colors from what I have seen before - the slide is black and the frame is Inox stainless steel. I really like the way it looks and it feels very nice in hand.

My question: Is this something new or something old (and I just need to get out and about more often)?

Two-tone Beretta 92 models were made for a while, but Beretta USA does not currently list a two-tone model on their website. To me, your picture looks like a standard M9 slide on a 92FS Inox frame. The "ASSY XXXX-XXX..." markings on the slide are M9 markings, but the slanted dust cover and radius cut in the backstrap of the frame are 92 aspects.

However, Beretta USA is notorious for slapping together pistols with whatever parts are laying around. Sometimes you'll see a 92FS with what looks like an M9 frame - from the factory. In fact, in a quick search for brand-new 92 Brigadier Inox guns for sale on Gunbroker, I can see frames with and without the slanted dust cover and radius cut. So your guess is as good as mine as to why Beretta decides which frame/slide combos to use on any given day.

I just checked gunbroker and it looks like there are several for sale so I don't think its a one-off. I also checked Beretta's website but couldn't find that model currently listed. It may have been a distributor exclusive or special run at some point. Nice looking gun!

"Each pistol features a lightweight, forged frame made from extremely strong aircraft-quality aluminum alloy." From the description of the gun on Slickguns.com.

I have a 92FS Inox. They have a stainless slide and barrel, and an anonized aluminum frame. Excellent gun!!

To make things even more confusing, the picture of the right side of the gun in the original post shows an M9 slide on an Inox 92 frame. The picture of the left side of the gun further down this thread shows a 92FS slide on an Inox M9 frame.

I found those pictures on Slickguns while searching for info on the pistol. Pictures of the actual handgun are pending my purchase ...

It looks like I will be buying the one I handled. I just need to decide which two of my 'extra' firearms to sell: one of the CZ82s, one of the S&W Model 10s, or my mil-surp cosmolined Chinese Type 56 SKS. Any two of those should get me the cash for the Beretta 92FS.

As far as I know the Beretta Inox guns have an nickle plated alloy frame rather than a stainless steel frame. I would assume that the 2 tone guns just have a nickled or other silver looking coating alloy frame too and not a true stainless steel frame.

I once got into a discussion with a gun store owner about the Beretta Inox guns. I had read that only the slides where stainless and the frame was alloy like all other 92s just nickle plated. I said to take a magnet and test the frame and the slide as a magnet will stick to stainless steel but not to aluminum alloy. The magnet didn't stick to the frame but did to the slide confirming the information I had read.

Still makes for a nice looking gun.

Yes, there have been previous variations with black frames/stainless slide and stainless frames/black slides. I've seen them several times (new) over the years
