So I am in a bit of a pickle: I have an IDPA match with classifier coming up and I plan on shooting the G41 again (for the third year) so I can classify in SSP, ESP, and CCP at once. First try I shot SS, next I got EX. I certainly don't plan to classify Master this time because I pretty much only shoot this gun once a year to classify. LOL

However my recent stock of plated 185 HBRN reloads are pretty light and don't eject or cycle the G41 with confidence (though they run 1911s and P220 without issue). I had a stovepipe and the brass pretty much stays right near the pistol. So I'm concerned that in the stress of the match I may limp-wrist it a bit and get some malfunctions. I have a stock of more powerful 200 LSWC loads and I tried them today and they function fine, strong hand, weak hand, limpish wrist. But last time I shot lead through the G41 (One mag of 230 LRN softballs) they leaded pretty badly and it took me a while to clean.

The barrel didn't look too bad after these LSWCs but of course I want to clean it thoroughly before shooting plated or jacketed again, and to hopefully mitigage any other lead-related issues through OEM Glock barrels.

Do you imagine I should be able to get through a couple hundred of these pills before accuracy or function drops off? I don't want to buy factory ball as it's gone up quite a bit in price and money is TIGHT right now.

Advice welcome:cool:

You will get away with 200 rounds, I just wouldn't do it but I understand your situation. I would invest in a aftermarket barrel with traditional rifling if your finding yourself forced to shoot lead rounds plus it will pay of in the long run.

Shooting cast is about fit and proper lube. If you bought them it's anybody's guess in regards to leading. I put 300, almost full tilt, loads through a G20SF Monday morning. It was business as usual and all it took was a normal wipe down at the end. I make my own cast bullets so I control every aspect. I always get a good laugh when people say you can't shoot cast out of a stock barrel. You certainly can but using store bought bullets leaves you open for a lot of potential problems.

I've always found leading comes out if a Glock barrel relatively easily compared to a conventionally rifled barrel since it has less corners to hide in (experience with 9mm Glocks only for me). I'm also one of those heretics that shoots jacketed to clean leading out of the barrel. It works well for me, but supposedly an angel dies everytime you do it.

I didn't get any leading whatsoever with my wheelweight 230's in my 21. My Kahr was a different story.

I've since started powdercoating and don't worry about leading anymore, pistols or rifles. It has totally revolutionized my reloading and shooting

I only shoot lead anymore in all of my pistols.

At one family shoot out I brought my G17 with the stock barrel and we ran 600rds of lubed lead bullets and accuracy never went down and the gun functioned as normal, when it came time to clean it only very light leading was present and it came right out.

I've now changed everything over to powdered coated lead bullets there more like running a bullet with a plastic jacket but fit is still king as with all lead bullets. Have had no problems pushing these bullets to major power factor with no leading at all.

The Hi-Tek coated bullets like you get from Bayou Bullets also work fine in things like Glocks.

I've done a uspsa match with lead with traditional lube in a g19 - no problems.
Key is correctly sized projectiles for barrel. Under sized equals leading.

I now exclusively load my 9mm with cast powder coayed lead projectiles and wont look back. Very happy.

Like Chris said. Powder coat and done.

Ive made over 20,000 of them in different calibers too. I run them in my 10mm witness match.

Many who have glocks run them in stock barrels too. No lead or smoke.

Btw wouldn't this be better in the reloading section? After all its about hand loads.
