We have a non-firing S&W revolver with a clear plexiglas side plate that we use to demonstrate function in our NRA Basic Pistol Class. Would it be possible to fabricate simple grips from 1/4" or 3/8" plexiglas? I've never worked with this stuff. Can it be cut/shaped with hand tools like a Dremel? I assume this stuff is very hard. I'm not planning to replicate the shape and contours of Magna grips, just something to cover the frame while allowing observation of the mainspring. Basic flat pieces on each side of the frame. Seems the tricky part for me with limited skills might be the escutcheons, so I might glue the grips with a release glue that would allow removal if necessary.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sure.
It would be a fairly simple job to cut them out with a band saw.

Sand the rough edges, then run a propane torch over the edges to make them Crystal clear and shiny again.

Unless clear plastic grips are flat on both sides images will appear distorted.

Thanks for the comments. I do plan to leave them mostly flat so students can still see the main spring in action.

You can buy escutcheons (I assume you mean for the stock screws) from several sources; try www.gungrip.com or www.gunpartscorp.com or just inlet a hex nut and use a hardware store screw. Appearance is not really important, you just want to keep the grips on.
