I am trying to talk myself into a NICE ar trigger, but before i spend a ton of money i want to get a few opinions. I usually just use a basic trigger set and polish it if its gritty, but reduced pull weight and length plus the better overtravel control has me thinking that a drop in might be worth it. So, what's your favorite and why, and pricing information would be helpful...

I have two Geissele triggers and IMO they are worth the money. That said, I haven't tried any cheaper options. there may be some good ones for half the price.

Geissele SSA is hard to beat for general use. Not a match or competition trigger, but breaks around 4.5 lbs, 2 stage setup.

Should be able to get one for around $200.

I've been happy with two CMC triggers, one in a 308 for hunting, and one in a 223 for plinking.

For all practical purposes, I am an AR noob.
Okay, not literally. I bought my first AR in 1982, but have never competed or gotten really serious about modifying/upgrading ARs.

I recently bought one of PSA's "polished enhanced fire control group" kits when they were on sale for $29.99 instead of the usual $49.99.

Last night I installed it on a PSA lower that I just purchased (never fired).

Honestly, I think it is garbage--no difference from the original parts, except that it is silver instead of black.

Same long creep, same hammer motion (the hammer moves downward before releasing.)

My EA15, bought in ~1984 (and probably fewer than 500 rounds since) has a superb trigger in comparison...and I would bet that most real AR guys would consider it mediocre at best.

One of these days, I'll spend $200 on an AR trigger. :) If I live long enough.

I prefer the Timney trigger it is really simple to install, and takes the slack out of the stock trigger. I've had one in my AR-15 for at least 5 years, and installed one in my buddy's AR-15 about 2 years ago, and he marvels at how light that trigger feels compared to his original trigger. I paid just under $200.00 for mine and my buddy paid even less.

AR-Gold trigger. 3#, adjustable weight, designed to feel like a high end 1911 trigger. Doesn't get much better.

I have a Jard 3# single stage. Feels good to me. Its not a box trigger. Several parts to be put in. I did the install. Not much of an ordeal and I like how it functions. Light and crisp. The rifle shoots good.

what you plan to use the rifle for determines whether you even need a drop in high expense trigger.

Long distance bench rest precision? Ok. Pick one.
CQB with a 10.5" barrel? Don't bother, there's no advantage and a light pull is even dangerous working in close proximity to team members or in direct contact with aggressors. By direct think shoving the muzzle brake into their face. You don't want a 2 pound trigger doing that.

Choosing the associated parts for a weapon starts with cartridge, to get the power and range working most of what is needed. That sets barrel length, the gas length, what optic, then a forearm, then a trigger. It's down the list - not unimportant - but definitely a much lower priority. It only enhances the potential accuracy, if needed, of the cartridge and barrel doing the selected task. It does nothing to improve things if the shooter lacks the skill to finesse it or the typical use situation doesn't fit it in.

Watcha gonna shoot is important.

SSA-E is the best two stage fighting trigger. On sale at primary arms right now for 192 clams.

While not as well known or talked about, Wilson's triggers have them all beat.

Truly "drop-in", built like battleships, ultra-safe, zero creep, crisp & clean breaking with a tactile and audible as well as excellent reset, zero overtravel. I have shot a lot of different high-end triggers and Wilson triggers are what are in my personal rifles. At about $270, they ain't cheap. I have the TTU-M2 as well as the TTU-MIL trigger.

There is a TTU trigger for any need or application:

I've used Geissele and LaRue triggers to good effect.

Same here.

Several SSAs and SSA-Es, and LaRue's MBT unit x2.

For the price conscious, LaRue's unit is less expensive than Geissele's by about $50, although a few months back LT had the MBTs on sale for something like $150.

Avoid junk like RRA's NM unit. Years ago I had two of those and both went t.u. under hard use. One started bump-firing and doubling, ... almost like F.A. but without the legal benefit of that gorgeous gommit tax stamp.

I have the National Match 2-stage from Rock River Armory in both of my ARs. It came in the first gun and I liked it enough I installed one in my other rifle. I find it very predictable and easy to shoot accurately. As a bonus it's less expensive than most other offerings.

I have a number of Geissele SSA-E triggers and they're wonderful things. I also have one rifle with a Hiperfire trigger in it - it's a single stage trigger and differently designed than standard AR triggers. Very, very nice trigger. It comes with 3 sets of springs to adjust your pull weight.

I recommend either one of these.

That statement right there makes absolutely zero sense to me.

Yeah, everyone knows you can't put a 2 stage trigger on a fighting rifle *cough* M1903 *cough* M1 *cough* M14 *cough* M110 *cough* Mk12 *cough*

Man, I must have a cold or something :D

I really like the CMC flat 3.5lb trigger. It comes in its own housing and literally drops in with zero fiddling needed. Breaks extremely crisp. I had not heard of them until Hickock 45 bragged about them on one of his AR builds.

Same price as the other options listed here, $200 or so. Well worth it IMO. I have one in a PSA and another in a Daniel Defense.
