Been into the Ruger Max since the mid 80's. Own a "few" Have also been recording serial numbers since then. Reason? To determine variation changes, ratio of barrel lengths, etc. Ruger produced 16,314 Maximums, a combination of completed guns and serialized frames. After the supposed flame cutting and forcing cone erosion, Ruger "scrapped" over 5000 Maximums, once again, completed guns and serialized frames. If you own a Max and are willing to share the number, even if it has been converted, drop me a PM. Below are some pics of the front sight height variation to the 7 1/2 Maximums. Please note which you have if you send me a number, high or low, thanks, Coogs.

Either my front sight was replaced or is another variation.

Only the height variations occur on the 7 1/2 guns. Yours is the "partridge" type front sight found on the 10 1/2 guns as well as the 10 1/2 Super Blackhawks. By the way, thanks for the number, Coogs.

Steveno, if you saw my fat fingers on this laptop keyboard, you'd cut me a little slack on my spelling ability!:what::what: My mistake, Coogs.

the front sight is Patridge and NOT Partridge

Actually if we're getting technical the sight pictured isn't a Patridge it's back cut a Patridge would be straight up and down like this.

A fun project if you lean that way.

Re sight blades: I never saw a name given to the undercut front blade, although I have heard it called a "hawkbill" or "Marine" sight.

The original 1909 design by Mr Patridge called for the blade to be tapered away from the rear aiming surface in all planes, top and sides. That to eliminate any chance of glare around the edges. Nobody has bothered with that in a long time.
