Hi-point just announced on their Facebook page that Founder and former owner Thomas Deeb has passed away. Looks to be from natural causes.

How about "founder and former owner" Thomas Deeb..?

Good on him for the company's creation. A lot of people's basic firearms needs have been met by their products.

Hope the new honcho modifies the HP rifles to use Glock magazines.

And BTW, I've shot several of the HP rifles. Reliable as any pistol firing rifle I've ever shot (and that includes the Ruger P9, Kel-Tec, & Beretta Storm.)

The HP rifles are as good as any of them.

And yes, people of low income deserve protection to.

Their customer service is legendary too. They make good, solid guns that are perfect for the low-income, low-volume shooter that just needs something for protection. I'm going to guess that the man had principles considering how well they take care of their customers. RIP.

I might buy a Hi-Point 9mm carbine just to plink with. They are cool. I do wish the new leaders decide to at least offer Glock magazine compatible models. That would be huge and I'd bet they sell quite a few more carbines.

From his obituary in the Mansfield News Journal (Ohio): "Tom Deeb was a self-made man, who became successful through his own wit and skill. Despite adversity Tom was able to use his unique perception and abilities to make it work. Not only was Tom a prolific entrepreneur and mentor, he was also generous, caring and had a great sense of humor...
"In 1993, he founded Hi-Point Firearms which has a manufacturing plant in Mansfield. Ever since, he has been manufacturing guns for the 'working people..."
Tom died in Denton, Texas at the age of 66. He will be much missed in the firearm community and by his family and many friends.

I bought a 9mm carbine sometime around 1999/2000. I remember giving less than $200 for it with the laser pointer and muzzle brake. I had no idea who or what Hi Point was at the time. I just saw a cheap pistol caliber carbine in the midst of my Wonder-9 period of gun ownership and I thought it looked interesting and would be fun to shoot. It's been one of the most functionally reliable firearms I've owned as well as one of the cheapest feeling and most ugly. The stock developed a crack in it sometime in the mid 2000's. I called Hi Point with the purpose of buying a new stock. Lady on the phone asked me for my address and one was in the mail to me and at my door within a week. I've probably run close to 5k rounds through it so far and never had a FTF or FTE. I admire the man who had the vision to build such a cheap firearm that anyone could afford yet somehow make it utterly reliable and functional.

I used to deride Hi-Point firearms, but eventually I grew to see them as a viable self-defense alternative for some people that are perhaps of limited means. These same people deserve protection just like everyone else.

I can appreciate this much better in my later years.

Rest In Peace, sir. And thank you.

I own 1 HP .45ACP. Got it cheap from a guy that couldn't get it to work correctly. Needed a really good cleaning from bullet lube on the feed ramp. Works fine for me. And if I'd run out of ammo I can always use it as a club.

Heck, I snicker at my 4095, then grudgingly admit that it's a pretty darned good gun. Durable, reliable, fun to shoot and accurate enoughish. It's great for shooters who aren't ready for a full rifle yet.

I love the carbines!

I've owned 4595, 4095 and 995. Kept 995 for commonality. I'll eventually collect one for my sons. Tough, fun, reliable.
I've fired the pistols and would gladly own them. Mr. Deebs founded a great American business. My condolences.

That's a shame.
I don't own a Hi-Point but I have shot several of them. They seemed to work just fine for me. Ugly, but they work well.
