9mm under $400

Bersa Thunder 9

Another very good recommendation. Not sure why so many people are recommending over $400 pistols. Come on people, get creative and stick to the rules! It is easy to suggest a Rohrbaugh. :)

So I'm still looking for a good budget 9mm like the two above. Money isn't an issue, I just get some sort of weird satisfaction using a cheap handgun that works just as well as more expensive models.

I know what you mean.

The Taurus PT 111G2 springs immediately to mind. They actually feel quite good in my hands.

But this 9mm set me back $365 about 3 or 4 years ago, an FEG HiPower PJK-9HP (the true clone, not the S&W Model 59 semi-copy). Its cheap, works and happens to be one of the most gorgeous handguns of all time IMO.

You should check out the EAA Witness polymer pistols. They are CZ-style pistols. The "small frame" versions sell for as low as $280. Most of the small frame models are not even listed on the EAA website. This is the model I have. (https://www.kygunco.com/eaa-tanfo-witness-9mm-pistol-45in-black-16-round-black-polymer-grip-94589)

The "large frame" models are a lot more expensive and the only real advantage of the large frame is that you can convert it to other calibers like 45acp.

The SAR B6P and Tanfoglio Witness Polymer are almost identical, The Tanfoglio has rails. I paid $241.43 for the B6P including shipping. The Tanfoglio Witness Polymerusually goes for $279.00

The SAR K2P 9MM is going for $279.89 + $14.74 shipping.

400 bucks includes a lot of pistols that I wouldn't categorize as el-cheapo guns. You can get the Ruger American Pistol for $399.00

CZ P07, normally there like $420 or $430. Double action/single action and they are super reliable and look good IMO

I bought the Canik Tp9sa at a gun show on a whim because it was 400 dollars and I needed a full size 9mm for security duty. It's become both my duty and my personal carry gun. It's like an exact copy and of a glock internally, but has a cleaner design. The trigger pull is smooth and has a super short reset. It's a little nose heavy but that helps reduce recoil and it's easily the most accurate 9mm I've ever fired. Another bonus. 18 round mag standard. Name any other 9mm full size that gives you 18+1 factory standard for under 400 bucks. This gun has become my baby, the only one I'll never trade or sell

Three months ago the CZ P07 Duty was on sale for $373.96

The bagman for my local Costco packs a S&W SD9VE :)

Cheap and reliable? You're not going to like my answer. But about 5 years ago I bought a New High point 9mm at a gun show for $115.
Went to the gun range with my buddies who both had new Kimbers. I think that these cost around $1000. Both of these couldn't go though one magazine without jamming. My new High point shot faultlessly. The Kimbers had to be sent back to the factory to make them shoot. Over the 5 years I have owned my High Point it has jammed 3 times, so it's not perfect.
I know it's ugly, and one of my gun connoisseur buddies who laughs at it just bought a High Point Carbine that he loves to shoot.
Has a lifetime guarantee too.

I just got a Walther PPX 9mm. Going rate is around $280. I only have 135 rounds through it yet, but it has been reliable for me so far. Hickock45 gave it a favorable review.

Besides the obvious choices that many have suggested above, how about something like a Walther P38/P1? A blast from the past, pretty cool, and under $400 easy for the post war ones. Someone mentioned the M88a, that is by Zastava. Hard to beat, all steel, about $220, crude military type sights, a little crude on internal finish and needs a bit of elbow grease but once polished and lubed they shoot great.
Walther PPX from CDNN Sports, think they are up to about $310. I am a big CZ fan and if you can find a P07 for near $400 (Sportsmans Guide had them for that) I would grab one. If SG does it again I will go for it. Lots of good guns under $400.

There are a lot of good 9mm pistols under $400.

EAA Witness polymer
EAA SAR B6P
Ruger 9E
Canik TP9v2/SA/SF
Canik S120
Tristar L120
Taurus PT111 G2
Ruger LC9s Pro
Walther PPX

I am sure there are more.

Hey guys. So I went to my LGS a few days back, looking at their inventory. I was hoping to find a Ruger SR9E or perhaps a S&W SD9VE... They had neither, and I wound up leaving with a new Glock 19 for $455 OTD. I really don't want the Glock though, and I'll probably wind up selling it in the future. So I'm still looking for a good budget 9mm like the two above. Money isn't an issue, I just get some sort of weird satisfaction using a cheap handgun that works just as well as more expensive models. Any other recommendations other than those? Perhaps the Canik TP9?
I get the same weird satisfaction. :D Unfortunately, that doesn't keep me from also buying 9mm's OVER $400. Some options:

-Look on the internet...prices can be cheaper. It's a little scary buying a gun online at first, but you get used to it after awhile.

-I paid $419 for my SR9c at an LGS a few years ago, but now I see them online under $400. OUTSTANDING gun. So I got one in .40, too.

-The SD S&W is good. The old Sigmas are good, too. I got a used .40 Sigma for $185 on Gunbroker. Sigmas might light strike on cheap eastern Euro ammo, but not a lot.

-If you like mil surp, You might still get a Walther P1 for under $400. I got a 1960's model for $395 this year, but some prefer the later reinforced models. The unreinforced models are cooler, IMO, because they still last a long time and they look more like the WW2 gun. Don't use +p.

-Walther PPX. Great guns under $300, even, but too big to carry, and the trigger's too light for a carry gun without a manual safety.

- Taurus Millennium G2. That's what I carry. Very reliable. PT809 is a larger gun w/hammer. Not as well built as a Glock or my FN, but they do the job.

- I hear great things about the SAR 9mm's from EAA, but don't own one.

Stay away from the Keltecs. They can perform OK, but some of the parts on mine keep breaking after 300 to 1000 rounds. Best wishes.

Honestly, you have an excellent trading item in your Glock. People do all sorts of crazy trades because they just have to have a Glock. I think you have a whole world of >$400 guns available to you if you want to work a trade.

Are you in a state that allows private transfers?

OP: Consider a TriStar C100. It's made by Canik and marketed in the US by TriStar. I have their C100 in 9mm and 380 Auto. One of these days, I'll add the C100 in 40 S&W.

These guns go for under $400 and are high quality Turkish clones of the CZ-75. My C100 in 9mm is my primary carry piece. OAL is 7.3", alloy frame with a 15 round magazine.

Get a HiPoint c9. At about $150, the satisfaction level for a cheap gun that works will eclipse all others.

I just get some sort of weird satisfaction using a cheap handgun that works just as well as more expensive models
If that is the goal, $400 mark won't give you the satisfaction! :)Polymer frame 9mms can be found at less than $300 and several at around $200 when go on sale. I set a line at $300 couple years back and all my handguns are metal frame, actually only my Taurus 92 and Sig P6 are aluminum frame and the rest are steel frame and majority were bought new!

The absolute best bang for your buck would probably be a tuned up witness steel frame of some sort.

Very few expensive guns will out shoot it, and probably nothing cheaper will really be in the same class, but it'll be over your four hundred dollar price point.

I think the elite matches are about 600 I think
