I have shot IMR 4895 with good results with .223 but have never tried CFE 223 yet. Yesterday I noticed the local dealer had a good supply of both and the CFE 223 was about $5 per lb. cheaper. What are your results with it and would I be better off going with it to save a few $? Thanks.

I have used a lot of CFE223

26gr for all my 55gr pullets

Great results.. I currently have around 30lbs of it.... that and H335 are my go to .223 powders

So Id say BUY BUY BUY

CFE 223 is good stuff. If you are loading only for the .223 id say go with it. If you are loading for a larger caliber also say .308 Id say go with the IMR4895. Ive used both and that would be my reasoning over one or the other.

CFE 223 - I have only used in the 30 carbine and 270 . Seems to be easier to clean / rifles in each . [ 3 nephews want a 223 - but here there is no place close - while there are indoor ranges within 30 minutes . ]
It seems to meter better in my Lee . All I use now-a-days is Hodgdon powers

I have a good load developed for 204 Ruger using CFE223. Works well in my rifles.

One of these days I'll try it in 223 Remington but I have too many irons in the fire at present and I like and use Accurate 2230 in 223 Remington.

I've used both CFE-223 and BL-C2. Both work well, but I prefer BL-C2 a little better. I would not hesitate to use either one.

for general shooting i say go for it.

I have not had extremely good accuracy with it but nothing unacceptable. just not as good as my h-335 load or benchmark or tac.

Thanks for the input guys. My .223 powder inventory now sits at 3 lbs of IMR4895, 1 lb of H335, 1 lb. of Varget and 2 lbs of CFE223.

From what I've read about how good the H335 meters, maybe I'll look for more of that when I need to re-stock. Since I use a Chargemaster, good metering powders sure do make the job easier.

I hope more data comes out with these CFE powders. I have shot kegs of IMR 4895, AA2495, primarily in the 308 Win, but also in the 223. If these CFE powders are the new, best, thing, I will use them.

I have seen decades of "powder's du jour", I remember when Alcan powders were just the thing. Norma came, went, and came back!. AA2520 was considered the end of history, and of course, smart guys told us that Vihtavuori powders were one of those epoch starting things. We are now living in the age of Vihtavuori according to the accolades of the 1990's. For all of these, there are still true believers, but I have grown skeptical having seen so "powder du jour's" get relegated to oblivion. I am hopeful that one day, technology will give us something great.
