Meh.

I mean it's wonderful that we have options, and I'm sure that it's a great rifle, but I really just can't get excited about a rifle that costs half as much as my car.

Even at $2k msrp it's cheaper than a SCAR.

Awesome! Truly these are wonderful times.

BSW

Cheaper than a lot of Noveske, LWRC and Daniel Defense ARs too.

I bet it will be just as cheap, or cheaper retail than the SIG 516, Beretta ARX-100, Bushmaster ACR and probably the Radom MSBS if it ever makes it to the US

Things I like about my Bren ...

1. I got it before the prices skyrocketed;

2. Easy to reach controls

3. Gas Piston Operation - very easy to clean

4. The stock folds

5. No twang

6. Butter smooth bolt and trigger

7. Good trigger out of the box; 5-6 pounds but a little long.

8. Comes very good with sights (not pictured)

9. Reversible Charge handle (can be on either side)

10. Standard AR/NATO mags (but you can get the original mag well/mags)

11. Standard rails

12. Not an AR

Will it ever replace the AR ... no, but its a great alternative.
It comes with a very effective muzzle brake and is threaded the same as an AK ... I gave $1,200 nib + $250 for the 922r parts kit and $200 tax stamp ... it was still $400 less than my Tavor if you include the $350 trigger required to make it shoot-able and sight rail to raise the scope where you could see through it.

** sorry for the crappy pictures, I snapped them just before heading out to the range.**

Very nice kimber kid, it was a toss up for me between the 805 or x95, decided on the x95. But I still want the 805

How is the X95 different from the first model Tavor's?

I had a 16" Tavor and the long longth of pull just wasn't comfortable to me ... plus it pissed me off that a decent trigger is $350 and the sight rail had to have risers for the scope or a taller aftermarket sight rail ... I sold it rather that spend the extra $500 on top of the $1,800 it cost up front.

I currently have 2 AUG's an M17S and an AKU-94 (AK bull-pup conversion) and I've had an FN PS90, Norinco 89, Valmet M82 ... and it seems like a couple others over the last 30 years but I can't think of them now ... my point is; I really like bull-pups and I'm not a stranger to the bull-pup concept.

I did do some research, and it seemed at the time everyone loved the Tavor ... I'd shouldered one a couple times at gun shows and at the time they didn't seem bad. Once you have an optic mounted its completely different and of course you can't actually shoot it or even try the trigger at a show!

Anyway, I went with the reviews I'd read and bought one ... it turns out that for me a 16" LOP is uncomfortable (12"-13" is typical for most long guns) and shouldering one at a show isn't the same as shooting one in real life ... There are several threads about removing the redundant hammer spring (added for cold climate reliability) which is said to drop the pull down to around 6-7 pounds mine was closer to 8 (of course they wouldn't let me remove the redundant spring to try it) ... but I felt good about the purchase at the time so I took the dive.

I don't regret it, when I sold it, it was to a guy walking around at a show and he was ecstatic to have it for $1,700 so I got most of my money back out of it ... I hadn't bought the Geissele trigger yet and used a riser that I had for my optic (neither went with the gun but I did still have the box, sling and stuff it came with and the blank warranty card) ... One of the things I liked about the factory rail is the factory BUIS sights but none of the aftermarket rails incorporated them at the time so if I wanted BUIS, that would be yet another expense that if I'd kept it, I would have had to do those upgrades ...

Darn you ifit!
I watched the links you provided, and I'll admit I haven't bothered to look into the X95 at all ... I really like what they have done, basically changed everything I didn't like about the Tavor ... shorting the LOP & improving the trigger, my biggest gripes.

I like how they moved the charge handle back, however I wish it would fold down like an HK ...

I like the new position for the mag release and I like the rail covers as I'm not a big on rails or hanging stuff on my guns but having the option is nice.

Changing the Pistol Grip is a bonus, I like the AR style trigger guard better than the open grip like the AUG ...

... and I like the new butt pad; not that I like big butt pads, I just didn't care for the one on the original Tavor.

Negitives-

It looks like you still need a riser for optic's ... so I'd still prefer that the factory rail was taller, eliminating a need risers but all in all its a huge improvement over the Tavor.

I don't care for is the way the bolt release hangs down with no fencing or protection to keep from accidently closing the bolt, or catching on something ... why couldn't they just put the release up by the charge handle like on an AR?

I'll check it out but probably wait another year or so to see if they come out with another generation ... the X96 (?) make it more to my liking ... I don't need any more guns, but for me, its never been about "need" ;)

^^^nice 805 Bren, had ordered the arm brace adapter for the scorpion...was going to buy the scorp. Ended up selling the adapter. my IWI Trifecta should be complete by next week. but the FDE 805 is nice

I handled the Tavor at SHOT 2015 as it really interested me,

As soon as I picked it up it felt REALLY awkward. The sales guys said that was normal and it goes away with training, but I didn't have the money. Watched you video, wouldn't mind trying the X-95 sometime. :)
The BREN is the new toy, hoping to get it out to the range soon.

I'm not seeing that as that much of a problem. If I'm actively shooting, I'm not going to be leaving the bolt open besides for the few seconds while reloading a magazine. If it's an administrative action, like a range going cold, accidental release isn't that big of a deal.

The big mag release is very quick to hit with a thumb as you reload a magazine. I'm pretty happy with the location and ease of access.

LAGS shooting the BREN today.

Too little ammo and WAY too many people to do a real range report, but it worked perfectly, even when my thumb got in the way of the bolt handle...but I will be back out as soon as more ammo is either prchased or made. ;)

Nice
I was always curious on how much they actually weigh. heavy or not all great reviews for those who shot it for the first time.

A trifle over 8 pounds, doesn't feel heavy. Was easy to shoot. :) I made one change, after dinging my thumb on the charging handle - I swapped it to the opposite side. :)

Bolt%20handle%20swap_zpszavtosny.jpg

The trigger is BUTTER smooth. Rifle has little recoil, and worked flawlessly. I need more ammo AND a quiet place to do some video...which I might be be able to do someday.

I was first impressed how butter smooth the first time I pulled the charge handle back ... I moved the charge handle to the right side too but moved it back ... I prefer keeping my shooting hand on the grip but if I were to carry it on a sling I'd want it on the right so as to have a flat side against my back ... also I don't grip it at the mag well so my thumb doesn't get in the way. To each their own!

BTW - Congrats on the new toy!

I really want to want one. Love the Vz.58 and this is a great evolution. I will have to fit this in the same category as the other new rifles; nice, but not worth the cost for me right now. Now, if that 6.8 SPC conversion ever materializes...

Got it out twice more so far, reloading is "progressing", need to find some 62 grain bullets. Everyone who shoots it wants one.
