What was the first revolver you ever shot, and what was the first one you purchased?

First revolver fired aside from a ring cap shooter was my dad's RG 38spl. I know it gets less than zero love as a gun, but his actually shoots really well. It's a K frame sized gun with square butt and 4" barrel.

First one bought is my most missed revolver. It was almost a Heritage 22 but as luck would have it they were sold out of them the day we went for it and I got a phoenix 22 auto. About 2 years later I got my second handgun, a Taurus 66 6" blued 6 shot 357. A month or so later it put a 6 pt buck on the ground, and started a handgun hunting sickness that I can't shake.

Gee, who can remember that far back?????
Me, it was probably a 1971 HR 929 nickel 3" 22, because prior to that I always shot my Dads 6" Colt Woodsman.

The 1st revolver I ever shot was my Dad's friends gun who is now deceased. A 2nd gen. Colt SAA 45. Being around 10 years old I remember it knocked me back a bit but it did put a smile on my face. I now own that revolver.

My 1st purchase was an H&R 686 22LR that also came with a 22 mag cylinder.
I was a young pup in my early 20's and have fond memories of that gun.

I shot a 4" S&W 586 in 1985 - I don't know exactly what model it was.

Purchased a S&W Model 63 for my daughter a few years ago.

Webley MK IV 38/200 and Webley MK IV 38/200. That was when you could buy a gun at the age of 16. Traded it for a Steyr-Hahn 1913 9mm-Steyr which I still have.

I thought I would be the only one, but same as WestKentucky for my first shot. Dads Rohm RG-38.

First bought was a Charter Target Patriot 327. Haven't been into them long, but they're multiplying.

Times They Are 'A Changing

Oh, man ! Most of you guys are really, really young !
I do enjoy your varied input, and appreciate this thread !

First, a little background. When I grew up, in my state it was illegal to buy or sell handguns. My, how things have changed.
At my granddaddy's house I had all sorts of firearms books and catalogs.
I was infatuated with all the handguns in Stoeger's "Shooter's Bible".

When I went to college in another state, they were more liberal in their sale of firearms, including handguns. The first HG I shot and bought was not a revolver. The first wheelgun I shot and bought were one and the same, a S&W Side Ejector .32-20 WCF caliber, 6'' barrel. Wish they still made them.

Addendum : Actually I "traded" a Jap 7.7mm, US True Temper machete, and some other things I can't remember for the Smith. I didn't "buy" it. The first HG I "bought" was a DWM .30 caliber Luger for $32.50. This was in the late 1950's to early 1960's. Back then I just wanted to shoot guns, not keep records.:D

Smith and Wesson Model 66. That was Dad's favorite and was on the range every time we went.

Bought a Uberti Schofield as my first revolver.

then a Model 10.

Then a Uberti SAA...

There will be more, i am sure.

First one I shot was a 4in nickle Python, a friends brothers.
We shot a couple of cylnders of 38's into and old 50's era station wagon in a pasture.

First one I bought was a 686-4, 2.5in.

The first projectile shooting revolver I remember shooting was one of those Mattel toy six shooters that shot spring propelled bullet cartridges with Greenie Stick'em caps for noise.

First real revolver purchased and shot was a Smith and Wesson Model 19.

I'm thinking the first revolver I bought was a Charter Arms Undercover in .38 Special back in maybe 1979 or 80. That may have been the first I shot, too. Kind of hard to remember that many years ago. Others that were among the first were a Ruger Blackhawk and probably a RG .22 Saturday night special.

Charter Arms Undercover. I bought it because it was only $130 new, while the gun I really wanted - a brand new Smith and Wesson model 10 - was $189 (at Montgomery Wards.)

And that was just too much to spend. :) At least back in 1979. Those were the days.

The first revolver I ever shot was an old Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece. This at a shooting gallery during the Mid South Fair in Memphis. I was maybe seven or eight years old at the time.

First revolver I ever bought was a surplus Colt New Service, a former Royal Northwest Mounted Police .455, reamed to .45 Colt.

The shooting gallery revolver was held by a steel tube in a ball and socket swivel mount. The mount restricted movement so the muzzle was always in a safe direction down range.

We need more pics. For inspiration......

Colt New Frontier .22 age 6 or 7.

Smith and Wesson model 25-3 in 45 Colt. Age 21.

I was 6 or 7 years old and my dad took me out small game hunting. He was carrying his 12 gauge and an Iver Johnson 22. He spotted a grouse with its head under its wing asleep at the base of a pine tree. He handed.me the 22 and helped me line up the shot. That's the first time I ever shot anything besides a target and my first time with a revolver.
The first one I owned is a S&W pre model 10 that I won on a gun forum. That got me hooked on revolvers and I bought a S&W 686, and an SP 101 and a S&W model 64, and a S&W 638. Dad still has the Iver Johnson.

when I was about 8, my dad let me fire his stainless speed six.
Shooting at bottle caps, I kept missing and missing.
Finally, my dads best friend said, "don't aim, just point the damn thing".
Bingo! Point shooting is still my favorite way today.

The first one I bought was a stainless GP100 on my 21st birthday.
I still have both!
Ruger wheelies forever!

Yes. The K-22 I shot was mounted on some sort of rig that prevented it from being pointed anywhere but down range. I remember the gun very well, don't remember the mounting hardware much except that it kept the gun from being pointed anywhere but down range. Probably prevented it from being stolen too. Since my grandparents lived on Long Island, that's probably where the shooting gallery was. Maybe at Jones Beach.

My first revolver was the first one I shot.
That Bisley Super Blackhawk, 7.5" 44 magnum new in 1987 or so is still with me. At least 40,000 hard cast with W296/H110.

First shot was a Super Blackhawk owned by one of my friends' dad when I was 13 or so---my dad never owned any revolvers---the only handgun he owned was a Browning Challenger.

First bought was a new Colt Peacekeeper .357 when I was 24 or so.

I don't remember what was first shot. Shot a few in my youth and don't remember the order. The first purchased was a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt. Love that revolver.
