What was the first revolver you ever shot, and what was the first one you purchased?

First one I ever shot was a New Frontier .22 that was later given to me. First revolver I bought was a 6" Trooper Mk III.

The first revolver I shot was a friend's grandfather's .38 S&W that we found in a trunk full of his stuff that they had taken from his house when he went to the nursing home to, well, die from lung cancer. It was chrome plated and in good shape. We took it over to a nearby park that had a hill on it that made a safe place to shoot, and went through a box of ancient ammo that was green with corrosion. We took it back to his house afterwards and put it back into the trunk, unloaded. A few days later, his younger brother loaded it up and cranked a shot off into the cinder block basement wall. He got in a lot of trouble. We thought it was hilarious that he was stupid enough to do that, even though he was just told he had a genius IQ.

First revolver I bought was easily the worst one I ever had. A Taurus Model 83. After two trips to Taurus, I got rid of it.

Same answer for both questions. My S&W 686 with a 4 inch barrel that I bought in the mid 80s.

S&W 38sp, can't recall the model. A few years later I was shown the 686 2.5". Ordered it on the spot. Could have bought the Colt Python... Have never regretted it.

Ohhhh... still own it along with it's bigger 6" brother. The second gun i bought.

1st revolver I shot was a S&W 29 with full house loads.
I was just a kid & my dad's co-workers thought it was funny.

The 1st one I bought was a Charter Arms Undercover Model 73820.
It was during their down years. :barf:

But they've fixed it & it's very accurate now.
I was very pleasantly surprised when it came back from the factory.
They replaced the barrel, crane & ejector rod assembly. :D

The first revolver I shot was also the first one I purchased. It was a Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag. I was about 16 and saved up a summer's worth of lobster fishing money. I still didn't have enough, so my dad offered to pitch in the rest if I got a B+ in math; little did he know that my teacher was a lifetime NRA member. The deck was stacked and when report cards came out I had a new Redhawk. I still have it today and it is still one of my favorites! Here is a picture from the late 80's when I was getting some target practice in Montana.

Ummmm, just wondering........where are your shoes? :) It looks like you're only wearing sox in that picture. Or are you wearing white sneakers of some kind? Sorry, just did a double take when I saw the picture.

Hi...

The first handgun I ever shot was my father's HR .22LR. My mother sold it to one of my uncles when he died. I was never able to convince him to sell it back to me despite making ridiculously high offers. Where it ever went is unknown, both my uncle and aunt have passed away. I assume it was sold at some point.

First handgun I ever bought was a Kimmel Ind. SA stainless steel .22LR/22Mag convertible revolver I bought from a co-worker for about $35-50 back in the mid-70s.
That was quickly followed by a SA 1911 in .45ACP, a S&W 686 Silhouette model and any number of others in a variety of calibers. A few were sold in the late -80s early 1990 time frame because of a divorce, but I still have approx. 30 or so handguns and continue to plan to add a few more.

First fired -

A friend's Dan Wesson .357 magnum or my grandpa's Webley in .45 ACP in the mid 1980s. I can't remember which was first.

First purchase -

A brand new Ruger GP-100 with 6" barrel in the early 1990s. I don't shoot it much, but I still have it.

Well...this was the pre-Goretex days and just finished hunting all morning in the rain/sleet/snow of a Montana spring. we stopped to dry off for a bit and decided to do a little shooting. I was wearing my leather combat boots from JROTC and they were soaked. What you can't see is our stuff drying by a fire. So yes, I was shooting in my socks....I should probably crop that picture.

Either that or the .44 Mag kicks so HARD...it knocked me out out of my shoes.... :)

Ah, makes a lot more sense now. I thought this was a George Costanza type situation. You know, the episode where he states that taking his shirt off in the bathroom frees him up, and later he comes walking out of a bathroom at a funeral with no shirt, because he forgot to put it back on. that type of situation. ;)

Though, the recoil knocking you out of your boots is a good explanation as well. :)

A smith M29-3 for both answers.

What can I say?

I got caught up in the Dirty Harry movies and went out and boughty the "Most powerful handgun in the world"

First revolver I owned and shot is the same, a Taurus model 85. Blue steel with the hammer. Bought when I was 21.

I still have it. It is semi-retired.

I saw my dad shoot a revolver a couple of times. I was just a child, and he died before I reached adulthood. So I have (mostly) been on my own as far as shooting goes.

S&w 686

My first revolver fired and bought back in 1996 was a new Smith & Wesson 686 with an 8-3/8" barrel. I fitted it with a Leupold mount and a Weaver 2x9 scope. From a rest at 50 yards I have a target that all 6 rounds can be covered with a dime.

Some 15 years ago I got a serious wheelgun fever. To find out what to buy, I went to a commercial range and I rented a S&W 686, a Colt King Cobra and a Ruger GP100. Can't remember which one I fired first :) Soon after I bought a King Cobra. Still got it and if I ever have to start selling my guns, it will be the last one to go.

Ruger single six!

Same revolver for both categories: Ruger stainless Single Six, .22. My cattleman cousins still have it and use it frequently to this day!
Best
P.
