So the wife is looking at being on the road and over nights and is considering digging her old Browning BDA .45ACP out of storage. She wants something larger than her carry gun and with more umph while on the road or in her several nights a week distant apartment.
I started looking at possible up grades to make me feel better at least and ran into some "issues"
The BDA has the "European" heel mounted mag release and all the replacement mags I have found feature floor plates that would seem to not allow that heel catch to work. Are there any that will work and are reliable with the European style heel release?
The BDA has no guide rod or a hole for one in the front of the slide so I am concerned that any 220 replacement springs will not be correct. Suggestions?
She seems stuck with issue sights as the BDA did not feature a drift adjustable front sight, it is fixed. I had hopped to put either a Tritium dot or at least a glow rod type front on but that is out. No rails of course, so adding flashlight or laser is out.
Finally there is the trigger. She has always had difficulty reaching the trigger for that first DA shot and decades past her solution was to thumb cock, which I was never happy with. Will any off the trigger kits available for the Modern 220 work in the old BDA and shorten the distance to the face of the DA trigger without adding to trigger pull? If so which?
I would be happy if I were using this BDA myself the way it is. I borrowed it on occasion for various steel and card board shoots and always did well with it, even though I always used first shot DA.
I just want to make me feel better with her depending on this 1970's gun on the road half the week.
Help?
