Saw a nice Winny 94 AE (30-30) going for what I thought was an absolute steal. Under $300... It was made in '89, so not anything a collector would be interested in; but also not made during the real crap era (from what I read) right after the change either. I figured if looking for just a shooter or hunting gun, that price couldn't hardly be beat. What do you guys think? Seems quite a bit cheaper than expected, no? Condition was good to very good, I'd say.

I know the AE means angle eject, meaning it was made for a scope, but this particular rifle still has a nice set of irons on it. Is that price anywhere near typical for a 94 from that time frame, in that condition? Seems awful cheap to me. At first I thought I'd be an idiot to pass a deal like that. Then I reconsidered and thought I really don't know anything about these guns. Never even shot a lever gun, much less owned a 94.... Figured I'd ask about it here.

i think it is a very fair price, if in good condition. i own two AE,s, a 94 timber carbine in 444 marlin(1-1.5" groups at 100yrds with scope) and a 94 rifle in .44 mag(1.5-2" groups at 100yrds with reciever sight) and have had no problems at all with them. eastbank.

Don't know about that! My 356 will shoot moa at a 100 yards with quite a few different loads and shoots about anything into 2 inch or less at a 100 yards. . Ive seen 3030s that would do the same. If anything ive found the angle eject guns tend to be a bit more accurate then the other 94s. I don't know if that's just luck of the draw or theres something to it but that's been my experience with them.

300$ is a good price for a Winchester. Those are good rifles, and as long as the barrel hasn't been abused it should shoot as well as any lever action 30-30. My wife's AE long barrel rifle will clover leaf 3 shots at 100 yards, what anybody needs with more accuracy than that from a hunting rifle is beyond me.

That seems like a good price, but not a steal. I see them quite often in the $350 range which usually means you can get them in the $300 price range. I've seen a few in the $250 range. The AE's go quite a bit cheaper than the older style. They are good quality so if you like the gun and it's in good shape, I'd say it's a buy. If it's something you don't really want, I don't think the price is low enough to justify buying something that you don't really want.

If the wood is in good shape, and their is no rust, I'd JUMP on that! :) I've had the same experience as Lloyd Smale has. I put a Leupold 1-4 on it.
