Anyone Have Experience Carrying CZ P01?

Has anyone conceal carried a CZ P01? Pros/cons? If you carry something else now, what made you switch?

To me it seems like its got decent size/weight to be able to carry well, and I really like CZs, but I don't have a lot of experience carrying a gun.

Any good night sights that can be recommended? For a IWB holster I was leaning towards High Noon, but again I have very little experience carrying concealed, so if you have a recommendation please share. I want something that is stiff leather and covers the trigger well since I'm new to this and safety is important. I was thinking of getting a gun belt from the local gun shop for $40ish (5.11 Tactical?), or is a better belt a better idea?

Also, how fast can a light be put on the gun? I have no experience mounting a light to a pistol rail. At some point down the road I might get a light so I can use the gun as both a CC piece and HD piece.

I carry a CZ 75D PCR. It's essentially the same as the P-01, but without the rail. High Noon make really great holsters, and they have a lot of them for CZ's. Join their mailing list on their website, they send out 20% and 25% coupon code emails almost weekly.

I carry my PCR in a High Noon 'Sky High' on the waist holster using a sturdy gun belt. Before I had that holster, I used to carry in a leather holster for a Sig P229. I've tried IWB carry, and it just hasn't been that comfortable for me, so I gave it up. OWB is a little harder to conceal, but for me it's more comfortable.
 
P01 is my favorite gun I own and carries great. I have 3 holsters for it, remora no-clip iwb/owb, don hume leather 721OT iwb and Desantis speed scabbard owb. The one I use most is the remora because it allows for deeper concealment and is actually most comfortable. Summer and t-shirt carry not a problem as long where loose enough shirt.

I have a P01 and like to carry it in an older OWB DeSantis Mini Scabbard that I have at around the 3 o'clock position. Very comfortable and easy to conceal.

CZ-USA will sell and install Meprolite night sights, which is what they use on their new guns: http://shop.cz-usa.com/SearchByKeyword?word=meprolite

You can buy just the sights themselves, but you have to know the correct rear sight number first, and it's stamped on its underside where you can't see it. The night sight number is stamped on its top. Why they did things that way is anyone's guess.

If you want CZ to do it you just have to send them the slide, so no particular shipping precautions will be required. As I recall the total charge came to somewhere around $160 including shipping both ways. Surely you can find cheaper options but I figured you can't go wrong with having CZ do it.

Turnaround was very quick. Accuracy is perfect.

This is military/police handgun often referred to as service or duty size. I can think of no pros for this as civilian CCW.

I can. The CZ P01 is very similar in terms of it's grip shape to that of the Browning Hi-Power; one of my favorite 9mm.s of all time. It points naturally for me, has a good trigger and sights, and is very accurate. A little bit large for a concealed carry gun but it can still be done with a good holster and belt combination.

Now what's better about the P01 for concealed carry is that it also has a good trigger and sights, is accurate, and it's more compact both in the slide length and grip frame than the Hi-Power. With it's aluminum alloy frame it's lighter by about 4 ounces, shorter in length by about an inch, and carries one more round in it's magazine. So what's not to like about the P01 for concealed carry?

The P-01 is a compact double stack magazine gun. I have the same size gun in a CZ PCR.

The service size version is the SP-01.

Regarding carry, I have a DeSantis "N.Y. Undercover" shoulder holster rig made for a Glock 19/36. My PCR just happens to fit right in it. It carries nicely and balances well with two full 14 round mags on the opposing side.

If you are mechanically inclined and want to work on your gun, the front night sight isn't too hard to install. All I use is front tritium sights when I go the night sight route.

First, you drive the front sight pin part way out of the slide where it clears the base of the front sight (with a correctly sized pin punch of course). Use a small nail or smaller punch to estimate how far you have moved the front sight pin without knocking it all the way out of the slide.

Second, using a piece of wood or plastic, drive the front sight forward off the slide.

Third, cut or file a notch into the bottom of the new front sight at the same distance and depth as the original front sight. I used a jewelers sized round file.

Fourth, tap the front sight back on and tap the sight pin back into the slide.

I have a related question for the CZ experts - is the slide on the P01 any taller than on the PCR? I can grab the slide of my 75B just fine, but my big fingers have a little harder time grasping the PCR's slide and nobody around here has a P01 in stock.

I agree! I love the PCR, and I'm sure I'd feel the same way about the P-01. I'm also a BHP fan. In fact, I've sold my other 9mms (Beretta and HK) and don't seem to find any other 9s that I want to own - just the BHP and a few of the CZ 75 family.
 
I carry my P01 in a Milt Sparks IWB holster for a H&K 45c fits perfectly...meprolight night sights

Pretty ignorant statement considering the P01 is exactly the same size as the Glock 19; often touted as a standard for concealed carry. Heck, the P01 is the same size as my HKP2000SK and my wife's Ruger SR9c with their extended magazines (of course the 10rd mags make concealment much easier)...all of which have rails.

The P01 is a "compact" pistol, just like the Glock 19 that can be concealed or serve as a duty pistol. I don't CCW a pistol with a light, but the rail is nice when used as a HD gun.

I considered a P-01 as a carry gun but I really am not a fan of rails, especially on a carry gun. I opted for a PCR and am very happy with my choice. I use an UBG holster. If you're set on a gun with a rail, the P-01 will be a great choice.
 
Carried a P-01 concealed for about 10 years plus. It can easily be done with the right gears. Heck, I still have two IWB rigs laying about here somewhere, one a nice HBE rig. Also have Bianchi M-1900 IWb rig that works well with all compact CZ pistols.
The M3 rail doesn't do one thing to make it easier or harder to conceal, non issue. It's an excellent czoice for a CCW pistol.

I also carry the 75D PCR as I see no need for a light rail, especially on a carry gun. However, the P-01 is TOP NOTCH. Get it.

A few years back when I bought my Ruger SR9c I happened to notice they had quite a few CZs in the case: a P01, a P06, and a P07. Didn't want another .40 S&W and didn't really care for the ergonomics of the P07. Wasn't in the market for another 9mm. But I really liked the feel and size of the P01 so I came back a week later and bought it. Great gun for the money and well suited for CCW if that's what you want to use it for.
 
I have carried its close relative, the PCR, a delightful gun, and now a P-07, almost as good. They are roughly the same size and weight as a P-01.

I have adopted AIWB ("appendix," i.e., on the front of my body between navel and hip bone, inside the waistband) carry. This is the P-07 in its Cook's holster.

In a pinch, a leather holster for a SIG P228/229 with a rail should fit a P-01 (without a rail for the PCR), but there are enough holsters being produced for this gun now that this shouldn't be necessary.
