We'll be going from MI to FL, passing OH, KY, TN, GA.

As far as I can tell all of these states have reciprocity with MI.

Are there any specific caveats to CCW'ing in each state ?

I plan on keeping the gun on me at all times (mainly because of the kids) and obviously not leaving it in the car overnight.

In MI and OH I would need to inform the police officer that I am carrying if stopped, what about other four states ?

I am familiar with this drive, live in GA and used to live in IN (and have family in IN and MI).

I don't know of any weird or unusual restrictions or laws you would need to know. All of these states are pretty good, Michigan is the most liberal/restrictive/silly of the list. Indiana does not require notification.

You should still look through the states using the handgunlaw.us link above, looking in particular at places off limits and how signage works (signs do not have weight of law in GA or IN)

Florida:
Must notify LEO only if asked.

Open carry only while lawfully hunting, fishing, camping, or shooting, or while in direct transit to or from such activities.

Can carry while consuming alcohol (I'm talking law here, people; discussion on wisdom of this is for another thread!) or while in restaurant that serves alcohol, but cannot carry while in a bar or the bar portion of such a restaurant. Other off-limits-places include law enforcement/corrections facilities and several others not likely to be on your itinerary.

Signs prohibiting weapons or firearms, as typically discussed here, are not supported by any specific law. Refusal to leave such posted property when asked can result in a trespassing charge only.

Signs have weight of law in Tn. and do not in Ky.
Currently, a sign as simple as a circle/slash decal on the door carries the weight of law in TN.

A new signage requirements law passed this year, requiring uniform standards and language on the signs, but that won't be enforced for two years.

You can carry a loaded handgun in your car's center console, glove compartment or just open carry in your car without any kind of permit in Kentucky.

Careful after passing thru gun freedom Ky You just might want to stay . We like our guns ,knives, rifles ,machine guns, and open carry since 1792 . :neener: .

No training requirement for a carry license here in Georgia. Or Indiana. Also Indiana will issue that shall issue no training handgun carry license at the age of 18, and long gun carry is legal open or concealed with no license. ;)
