So I just bought a nice Ruger Blackhawk. It`s the 45acp, 45Colt convertible model. I`ll receive it sometime next week. I`ve seen them at the range,& I said to myself I want that revolver its a sweet looking revolver.. So I tell my buddy, (non gun guy) & he asks me ,"don't you have enough guns" ? For a second ,I questioned myself. Then I decided it`s the fact that I think it`s beautiful piece . No I don`t need as many guns as I own! I`m 71 ,I have a nice USAF pension , & I like single action revolvers,Winchester lever action, rifles ,etc. Why do i let these very good friends aggravate me ! No, I don`t need them, I want them! It gives me a pleasant experience. Nothing else needs to be said.

Good for you! I'm in the same boat and about the same age. BTW I have that identical revolver and love the thing. It is very accurate with both calibers with the .45 Colt having a very slight edge.

I have always been annoyed by the mind set that wants to ask those sort of questions.

"Why do you need an assault rifle"

"What do you need a motorcycle with 200 horsepower for?"

"Don't you have enough guns?"

"Why do you want to carry a gun to (Fill in the blank)"

Somehow, they seem to think that I have a requirement to meet their approval before they will grant me permission to go about my business.

I usually try to be reasonably polite the first time, but these folks seldom seem to get it.

I eventually have to inform them that I don't need their permission or approval and I'm not interested in their opinion.

Of course, that doesn't keep them from being who they are.

I always liked flipping that one around, personally.

" Why wouldn't you want a 200HP Motorcycle"

And so forth.

I hope you enjoy your new Revolver. Thats a slick combo, and they feel very good in the hand.

Absolutely spot on, sir...

...it's the fact that I think it's beautiful piece. No, I don't need as many guns as I own! [But] I'm 71, I have a nice USAF pension, & I like single action revolvers, Winchester lever action rifles, etc...

I'm just ten years behind you, my good man, and I feel the same way although I'm still working for a living.

There are few firearms that "do it" for me like lever carbines and single-action wheelguns (but the ones that do are 1911-pattern pistols and short, light and handy bolt-action rifles).

Keep buying and carry on. May your joy continue! to multiply.

:)

Same boat as you, would love to add a Blackhawk .,45 Convertible to the collection.

Yesterday I was sitting next to my wife who was having a viber group conversation with her classmates who started showing pics of their firearms and I through my wife jumped in and shared pics from my phone with captions like my 3 czs [why do you have 3 czs says the wife], last 1911 (how many 1911s do you have).
Her classmate a gun guy was asking how many guns I had. I said not enough but they and my wife kept asking so I said more than 10. (How can 10 guns not be enough says the wife)
With further insistent questioning since it was my wife typing . ... I plead the fifth. Including my son's cricket it's 24 guns.

So I tell my buddy, (non gun guy) & he asks me ,"don't you have enough guns"

Best Answer: "No, but I've got more than enough friends."

I would say it, of course, in a nice tone and with a non-threatening smile.

Amateurs! a) Never let your wife have your phone. b) Never ever let her post pictures of your guns. Somebody is always watching.

My right to keep and bear arms is in the Bill of Rights in the Constitution. In that document it makes no statement as to the number of arms. It is also called the "Bill of Rights", not "Bill of Needs".

If the OP wishes to have 100 Ruger Blackhawk revolvers, then he or she should have them if they can afford them.

I work with lots of musicians. When that comes up I'll compare them to guitars. What in the heck does 'need' have to do with anything. I consider myself a collector/enthusiast. They now 'get it'.

I know what you mean. Since the late 1960s I had 5 handguns ant three rifles. Then, 12 years ago, I retired, moved from California to Arizona and discovered gun shows. Then a few years ago I discovered Gunbroker. I think I total over 50 today after a couple of years of the “Gun-a-month” club.

I have an old friend and every time she calls, her first question is how any guns did you buy this month? Then there is my daughter. When she comes to visit, it’s pretty much the same question. I just love the look on her face when I say; When I die, I just wish I could come back to see what you’re going to do with all of them. :D

this thread hits home. i can only add that i followed orders dutifully for many years so i have become a bit independently headstrong in reaction in general after retirement. when the current cinc. started moving against guns i decided it was time to do the opposite and load up.

Yep! I agree. I don't need them, but I want them. I don't have to justify it to anybody. If I can afford the object of my desire, I buy it. I guess I am fortunate in that I am retired LE and out in the Southwest people just assume that I have guns and don't question me about it.

Good for you, OP! My wife sometimes comments on my guns, but stops when I mention how many pairs of shoes she has that she hasn't even worn! At least I use every one of my guns. Some more than others, sure, but they get used. And they are worth most or all of what I paid for them, depending on when I bought them. Can't say that about shoes...

In my experience most people who ask that question aren't hostile, they just don't understand. Similar to how I don't understand why people collect stamps, or but lots of golf clubs.

Try not to take every question as hostile, but as an opportunity to simply explain that you have a hobby and threaten no one. Just use those questions as a way to start a honest and civil conversation

And by the way chasgrips45, I'm jealous, I want more revolvers especially.45 cals. Nice piece, and thank you for your service.

So this is the most interesting thread I have read in a while. I agree with everything that has been said. I don't have many guns -yet. But I understand the desire to acquire and enjoy the one's I do have. I too try to be polite and educational when it comes to the non-gun guy. And I have had several quality conversations because of it. You guys are great. Keep up the good work and the good comments.

No one ever asks someone if they really need more children either.

I've been asked the same thing about fishing poles. To people who don't fish, a fishing pole is a fishing pole is a fishing pole. Same with guns, guitars, and guitar amps. If you don't use them regularly and know them in and out, you don't have any idea what the differences are and why they're useful. Try going after trout that are rising to #16 PMD emergers with a 7-foot heavy flipping rod. There's usually some comparison that you can make with a friend that helps them understand. Just be careful with the "Don't you already have enough shoes/purses/accessories" retort with you significant other. That can backfire whether it's true or not. :)

When it comes to questions like this, and similar ones on topics other than firearms, I like to turn it around on the questioner with a simple, "Why not?" This often prompts people to reveal their true thoughts, such as, "Why do you need so many of those nasty guns that only have one purpose..."

There are lots of things in life we don't NEED. A nice car, boat, motorcycle, A TV or phone, kids, spouse/lover, pets, house, a great meal, air conditioning, inside pluming, nice clothes, land, the list that can go on forever.

If it makes you happy, do it while your alive. If you die someone else will have fun with some of your money, after the .gov takes what they want.

Totally agree with the OP....and SA revolvers are always my favorite...I have a bunch of them...and the Blackhawks are wonderful guns. I have .44 Specials, 2 Super Blackhawks,
3 Single Sixes etc. Enjoy!
