I want a 1-4x (1-6x preferred), illuminated scope for an AR15. The Vortex Strike Eagle seems to fit the bill for a reasonable price. Is this a good scope in this price range, or should I look at something else (budget adjustable if its worth it)?

I should add that I've got little experience with magnified scopes, so I'm not sure things like glass clarity will be noticed by me (I also can't tell the difference between $10 and $60/bottle wine)?

i have one. i was like you in that i would have gone to the Viper if it was worth it. i looked for months and no store had the viper in stock and the Strike Eagle looked good enough. Anyway, my plan is to practice w/ the SE for a year. If i end up wanting to upgrade I'm sure I could get $275-$300 for it. I/m sure you could too.

On sale for $179 at Palmetto - I have a couple of these - one of my favorite scopes on an AR.

One of the employees at a local gun shop (who has looked thru a lot of glass) was impressed enough with it that he bought one, even thought the store doesn't carry them and he can get a lot of name-dropper brands at an employee discount.

BUSHNELL AR OPTICS 1-4X 24MM RIFLESCOPE W/ THROW DOWN PCL AR91424I

EDIT: Forgot to add - it's a FFP scope if that's important to ya.

I have the Bushnell 4.5x18x40 AR on my AR it is one fine scope it has a long eye relief I got my from Midway on sale for around 169.00 with free shipping Mid south has them also look like they are in the 222.00 price with free shipping they also have them in 4.5x12x40 also 9x40 these are a little cheper they do have good glass

Not seeing the strike eagle on PSA. Can you send a link basicblur?
Dunno what a strike eagle is...the link to the Bushnell Throw Down PCL is in the previous post (click on the underlined link).

I'm a beginner Three Gun shooter and am thinking of getting the same type of scope. My home club's matches don't have rifle targets beyond 70-80 yards due to limited space so my nonmagnified red dot is fine for that, but if I go to other club's matches it would be good to have some magnification.

Another choice that is even more affordable is the Primary Arms 1-6 for $270: http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-...em-paps16x-eta-late-aprilmay-2016/p/paps1-6x/

According to one source this scope is made in the same Chinese factory that makes the Strike Eagle (take that for what it's worth).

The only issue is that the PA scope has been sold out for some time. I think they are expecting some in June.

There are some YouTube videos comparing these scopes.

If you say so!

It is Chinese glass, so you're not going to be getting the greatest build quality or optical performance, particularly in marginal light conditions.

A Burris TAC30/MTAC 1-4x or a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.25-4x would be a lot better glass for around the same price range, and wouldn't be made in China.

If it is not going to be used in the field and is just going to be used for matches or plinking during the daytime, you might not care so much about glass quality... but then there is the Primary Arms ACSS, which is the same scope but with a better reticle and at a lower price.
