Thanks Ron. Reading it now.

I'm afraid I'm going to want one of these

(Edit: read the article. It answers all questions regarding FR8's and ammo, consider my question answered!!)

The FR8 rifles were among those that I wish I had held back and kept one when we were selling them at the shop and gun shows. During the early 90s the things were pouring in and I want to think about $49 give or take was dealer cost. I did shoot several and liked the things. I saw them as a very, very reasonable priced .308 Winchester bolt action rifle. Then too, couldn't keep every surplus gun I liked. :)

Johnny$,

Speak to me about this scope mount. Please.

how is it attached?

Got an old K98 that needs serious Bubba Work done on it (shot out barrel, broke locking screw on magazine and general ugliness and it was once cold blued) and I am thinking a scout scope might be easier that putzing around trying to re sight it.

My hack saw and wood rasp are straining at the bit as I type.

Here's mine in it's current configuration. The only other thing I might do to it is switch the Fajen stock out for a Choate to save a little more weight.

The mount is made by XS Sight Systems. It slips over and around the barrel. It's pretty easy to install.

If you Live in, or Travel through west TN, my very nice FR8 might be for sale. The bolt/action match and the Cetme bayonet/sheath are included. All original; I never sporterize classics, or buy such.

Recently decided to face the reality that I'm just never going to be a bench rest shooter, no matter how cool this rifle is. FTF (in person) sales are my only method.
It's an excellent 'scout rifle'.

We are in Cordova TN, by Memphis. My only training in sending photos is via smartphone to smartphone. Send a PM message for my number.

henschman,

What can you tell me about your scout scope mount?

J$, Thanks for your response.

I've handled Hensch's FR-8, and he has shot mine. He has the same Clifton Scout mount from XS Sight Systems that I do.

You just had to ask. This is generally a subject subject to some controversy. My answer is yes and I have sent plenty of factory .308 Winchester down range with these rifles. However, this is a very good well researched article on the subject, I suggest you read it. That saves many of us some serious typing. Feel free to read other articles which may or may not agree. :)

I had one briefly so idk if I can be a part of the club. But I wish I could find another one or something similar. I hadn't read this article but at the time I was concerned about the safety, on top of that mine wasn't in great condition so I got rid of it and got an Ishapore Enfield instead. I like the Enfield for its action, capacity and soft recoil with the 762 NATO, but I liked the fr8 for it's sights, shortness, and wow factor of the short barrel combined with the flash-suppressor. Just like my Enfield, I would stick to the military loading considering the usually over-sized chambers, pressure concerns, and cost. At least the fr8 has more built-in safety over the Enfield.
