Anything that is really worth owning in the +/- $200?

My past two P89/P95 pistols were well less than $300. For a reliable, durable anvil of a full size 9mm pistol, they're a good buy.

Failing that - I'd get a Keltec PF9.
I didn't even think about the old Ruger pistols. Those are a great value for well worth more that the price you'll pay for one.

I've had several sub $250 pistols, I still have some of them, but I haven't really had a very high opinion of any of them. I guess my favorite was a CZ52, nothing special by any means but for 200 bucks it was a decent gun....I guess.

I just checked GB and there is one on there with a current bid of $175. You could conceivably own it for $180. It looks to be in pretty good condition as well. I am tempted to bid on it myself; it would make a nice gun for my students during our range sessions.

you can get a Rock Island model 206 38 special 2 inch barrel for under $250 . It ain't a Smith, but as a good utility firearm they are getting excellent reviews . There is also a 4 inch version for about the same price .

Never was a Taurus fan however picked up a new 709 9mm slim, trigger is excellent, very accurate, no failures in several hundred rounds, little over
$200, hard to beat.

Yes yes, pt709 I bought one new in 2009. They are only $220 new now? Geez, I paid $349 for mine.
Good choice despite what some say.

CDI Sales on Gunbroker always has milsurp guns in the low 200's. I normally see a lot of CZ99's and CZ83's (different makers, ironically). Lately they have had some old S&W 9mm's as well. Recently they have had "ugly gun specials" for $195. In this price range they will have worn finishes, but all of the guns I have gotten from them have been good shooters. Keep in mind that with around $15 shipping and $25 or so FFL fee a $195 gun still costs $235. My FiL and I have been extremely pleased with our CZ83's.

Get a Mak, they are on slickguns.com, from several dealers today and yesterday for mid 2's. They are much better choices than most other guns mentioned. The Lcp is nice but no ware as accurate or powerful with less rounds than the Mak, It is about 25-26 oz. , so it's twice as heavy as the LCP, but it's a lot more gun.
Taurus is acceptable if you get a good one, and I never had a bad one, but again the 9mm 9x18, mak is a better gun, more accurate and more rounds with 9 total.
If not that then a Taurus 705, in 357 going for $288, samd place or a 6 shot Rossi, around the same price in most local gun shops. The Tactical store in Ft Pierce has them, "didn't ask price", but you should be under $300.00. Good luck

I went through this exercise a while ago looking for a 9mm truck gun.

I just used Internet search tools like Gun Watcher and SlickGuns to price sort all 9mm from low to high. At the bottom of the price range are derringers, then Hi-Points at $125.00 or so, then J.A. Nine at around $130.00 to $140.00 then the Century Arms Zastava M88 / Yugo M70, which were on sale for $180.00, then there was Diamondback DB9 and DB9FS, Taurus PT111 G2, Taurus 709 SLIM, SCCY and Kel-Tecs all coming in at around $200.00. Then there were the Sarsilmaz offerings – imported by EAA coming in at around $240.00 and then the Tanfoglio Witness priced around $255.00

The Walther PPX, Ruger SR9E, Kahr CT9 and S&W SD9VE can be had in the $270.00 - $280.00 price range if you wait for sales.

You might try a Makarov. They were really inexpensive but the
price keeps going up. They are good shooting guns and all steel.
Their one drawback is that they are 9X18 caliber. Not a particularly
hard to get ammo.

It's amazing how many people here who won't sleep tonight or go out tomorrow unarmed will tell others they need to wait to be armed, despite all the good choices already mentioned..

Agreed, $200 will work to get things now.

You can certainly open up the options at $300+....but $200 can get a lot of decent choices IF you spend the effort to look.

OP - check local private sales, any big box or local gun shops, pawn shops, gunbroker. Look all over, spending $200 is easy, spending it smartly not so much. Your friend needs to do this and find out what options work for them, or what they prefer.

I would also recommend the Ruger p95, but unfortunately it seems that replacement parts such as springs are nonexistent. I got one for my first pistol and it has seen a countless number of rounds over the years. The only issue I ever had was heavy carbon buildup on the extractor ( my fault for not cleaning it). A few months ago I decided to dig it out from the back of the safe with the intent to give it a little TLC. I gave up on my search to find the recoil springs so I put it back.

That PPX is $300 + transfer. Not sure that is really +/- $200....that's a 50% price increase

I will add to the positive recommendations of a 9mm Makarov.

Personally I like the CZ-82 over the others, many features you normally find only in more expensive guns.

The safeties and mag release are ambidextrous, 13 round capacity, solid as a rock, reliable and inexpensive. Ammo easy to find, cheap and Hornady makes a good Critical Defense round in 9 Mak.

Yep deal in the last five years meet your requirements. A 80 security six for 250 of A and a new Smith and Wesson 642 38 special for 225 otd(224.99 if your want to get specific).
Not usual prices but deals are out there.

I just picked up a Heritage single action .22 with a .22 Mag cylender for $179.00 . With taxes and fees it was still ( just ) under $200 It shoots good, nice trigger versital, whats not to like ? I know it isnt "Taticool" but its fun !
