Collected the latest hand cannon today ... weakened (severely :p ) and have gotten the BFR in 45-70 Govt. This is one beaut' hunk of metal.

Comes complete with a Weaver rail, screws etc ... but out the box, here he is .....

Then got to fitting mount rail and added the Bushnell HoloSight I had been keeping for the purpose ...... all I need to do now is make time to sneak off to the range.

Notice .. this gun is a guy .. nothing effeminate here! :D

Got some Rem JHP's to kick off with but now also have some Starline brass and some LaserCast 405 grainers .... just need to get press cranked up and load first batch of experimental rounds ... starting at the easy end! Don't plan to push things too much too soon.

Man. I have absolutely no use for a gun like that.

And I want one very badly.

Spoken like a true gun nut!

:D

I'll second the motion! The only thing better than a .45-70 handgun is a .45-70 revolver! :D

P95carry, I think that I am having a small case of " revolver envy"! How are you going to ccw that? Let us know how it goes BANG!!! and Enjoy!!!

Holy crap, that thing is huge!!!

Holy crap, that thing is huge!!!
Litlman ..... when it came to ''owning up'' to having got it .. and showing my wife ... she sorta grinned (well - she knows me well by now!) . and said .... ''That's obscene''! :D

CCW? ... well, Mexical style of course ... but with care lest I damage my knee from the muzzle! :p

I hope when I get it to the range I'll have time to take chrono etc ... and do a fairly broad test and report. Ideally I'll have some home loads to run thru also.
Are you aware of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Joey .... oh yeah .. I am!! However, maybe over years of cannon blasting i have lucky enough not to overdo it to point of real problems. I think my thumb web is primary indicator when ''enough'' for a session is reached.

Well .. that and any tendency for the lurid grin on my face to be weakening ...... perceptibly!!:D

P95Carry, I assume you're going to call it the "Pshooter"?
hehehe ... yeah, that'll work!! But over time I think it'll gather several names extra ..... some I will give it - some I feel sure others will give it after a trial run! :D

Know what ..... I just realized ...... that 45-70 round is perhaps amongst the all time classics of ammo .... great looks .. and oozing history!:)

Chris, you be the new "Smiling Bob":D I saw one of these used for $700 recently , and thought about it long and hard. Did I say HARD?:D

COOL!! A picture at dusk dark with a full house load would be something!
IMR 3031 works nice out of my Guide gun.

I have a mind pic.

Chris with 45-70 BFR strong side, 45-70 lever action carbine slung on shoulder, and his "BUG" is the .454 weak side.

Mutant alien zombie bears, puma, cougars....last seen headed for parts unknown...

Old Phart on the touring bike is grinning with bugs in his teeth, kicked in another gear , full throttle..."you can run - but you'll only die tired"....:D

Holy Moley!:p Some fun here!

Gordon ..... "Smiling Bob" hehe .. well ..... I anticipate a very hearty grin factor .. so not so much "Smiling Bob" as ''Grinning Chris''!

Marshall .... By gosh he's got it ........ ''P45-70Tote'' .... that'll work! ;) Thx for the links too .. the article on the 45-70 has some interesting data.

Steve ........ now I have a great mental picture!! The .454 weak side is a real inspiration! :p Only thing you forgot .... BUG #2 ... ankle rig ... the ''tiny'' 4" M629 with the pipsqueek .44 mag loads! :D :D

All I'd need to do tho with this get-up ... is learn all over how to walk properly!

I can see it now...

Get yerself a BFR in .454/.410 and carry them both in a "Lone Ranger" rig with .454 in the belt loops.

One bandoleer of .45-70 and another bandoleer of .410

A Marlin 1895 in a scabbard on one side and a Marlin .410 lever action on the other.

Wide, flat brimmed hat, with silver concho hatband, pulled low.

And a Clint Eastwood serapé with,
MOLON LABE
Motorcycle Club
embroidered across the back.

BluesBear

You are REALLY good - you do realize that I hope.

Poor Mrs. P95Carry...all she has is a "Pipsqueak" .357 magnum.

That's okay......she needs a jacket too. At least she can walk a straight line and straddle the bike...I bet with all that hardware Chris has a difficult time doing either - much less both. :D

Ok, now I'm gonna have to consider one for myself. I've got to look up my buddy who owns one so I can test drive his this weekend.

Look what you've started!

Regards,
Rabbit.

Look what you've started!
Rabbit .... let me be totally honest ..... I bear full irresponsibility ...... :D

Ahh but Steve - on the bike I have to lighten up .... so I have to downsize to just a mere Raging Bull!!:p I'll say one thing ... Mrs P95's humble .357 ... is what she's good with - albeit only stoked with .38's.

Heck tho ... I'd hate to piss her off as a BG .... she'd not want to be offering out the ice cream!! :p

I swear to God, that's the first time I've ever seen a pistol and considered how to fit anchors and a sling to it :D

Chris , we took a vote and we all agree...

This 45-70 BFR needs a special type of range report. WE decided since we have never had a video range report ...well...we felt this gun deserves the honor.

BluesBear is in charge of wardrobe and background music. :p

We need low light pics, of muzzle flash, slo-mo recoil, shooting water filled buckets....the works!

I still think Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb can be worked into the video...maybe for the after shoot report. :D

Look at how easy it was to solve the rifle handgun ammo question. you will enjoy how pleasant these are to shoot. I use an Uncle Mikes size 11 holster and a Hunter leather products belt. The belt lets you carry twenty five in the loops. Still looking for a good leather holster but finding one to fit the barrel length and the cylinder length is a problem. Have fun.
