Going rate for Colt Python

Yeah, people tend to hate what they don't have or can't have.

Makes me laugh...

Seriously, how many folks are looking at investing in a Python, but decide to go with a GP100 instead?

No longer made Colt revolver is the reason for their cost. Your average Walking Dead watcher could not afford one.

I never saw a single minute of that show. Is it good?

Python values were headed north long before it though.

You're totally missing the point, which is generally what happens when someone has no knowledge on the subject. There's a lot more of a difference between a Python and a dime a dozen GP100. Considering my Pythons have tripled in value since I bought them, I'd say it was a good decision to buy a bunch.

Yes, I own plenty of Rugers. They work, but are crude revolvers.

Sounds like a "you just don't understand" thing. If it makes people feel good, go for it.

If Pythons were so fantastic, Colt would have never stopped making them.

Colt was in financial trouble and the high cost of producing the Python caused them to stop, since they just could not afford to keep making them. As far as being a safe queen...........NO. I shoot mine. I take very good care of the tiny number I own, but I didn't buy them for the next owner. I no longer own a DA Ruger.

A good friend sold a 95% early 60's blue 6 inch on GB a few months back,it went for $ 1750 after starting it at $1400. Intersting Flurry of bids last 3 min of auction.
He's got a NIB 6 incher but not selling now, said he thinks it will bring close to 3K!

Wow

You really have a lot to learn. I'll just leave it at that.

You have some learning to do. Ruger made an excellent Ruger 44 Carbine. It had a great following. So why quit making them? Cost! Have you looked at an early 10/22 and one today? They have much more plastic and are not the Ruger 10/22 of decades ago. There are reasons a manufacturer discontinues a product, you may want to learn and understand them.

The Python is the Brigitte Bardot to the GP's Ruth Buzzy.
Comparing the GP100 to Ruth Buzzy might be a little rude.

I think comparing the Python to Raquel Welch and the GP100 to Carol Burnett would be more accurate. JMHO, of course. ;)

Why, because I have not bought into the Colt Python religion?

I had people tell me the same stuff about the Sig Sauer P226 and just how perfect it was. After dropping almost $900 on a P226 it was pretty much meh, no better than guns costing 1/2 their price. Never again would I listen to what I consider almost blind zealotry.

I think people get a preconceived notion that a Python is just the most amazing revolver ever. I'm not saying the Colt Python is not a good revolver, I am sure it is a great revolver. Let's just say I am a skeptical and don't drink the Kool-Aid.

The OP was about the current market value of Pythons, and to that end we've had lots of good input.

We're now into more the more subjective (and touchy) issue of Python "goodness" (vs everything else), though, so I think it's a good time to thank everyone and move on.
