Anyone who saw him debate the proposed gun maker liability laws this spring would agree that Larry is very pro 2nd. He just about called Teddy a liar ! He is the best I have seen.

Condi is from Mobile, AL. She is beloved here I can tell you that. But, I don't know what evidence there is that she is pro-2A. I hope she is, but has she written anything about the 2A being an individual right or gun control being unconstitutional? I haven't seen anything one way or the other.

If she really is pro2A I would vote for her. Just think a black woman president supported by nearly every poster on this thread. And we are somehow sexist or racist.

Personally I think that Bush needs to pick her as his veep this time around to give her a boost. Plus, Dick is not in the best health, so they can use that as a good reason to drop him from the ticket.

She's seen what can happen when blacks are disarmed. She understands it's not about guns, it's about control.


I don't think you'll find anyone who's more adamant on keeping our 2A rights.


On other matters, she may or may not be the best. On the 2A, she's as solid as we could want.

I am in favor of a Paul/Rice ticket myself.

#1 Condi Rice, no doubt. I wish Bush had picked her as his running mate, so she could get a bit more "political" experience. How about a quote from an article authored by G. Will, Aug. 2000:

"In a pleasantly meandering conversation over lunch in San Francisco last summer, Condoleezza Rice, then still provost of Stanford but already unofficially what she now is officially, George W. Wow. Said this as Provost. She would have been booted out of academia for views like that, if she had not left on her own!

Condi Rice is pro-choice. Sorry, but she'll never get the nomination.

To answer your question - anyone with an American Conservative Union rating of 90 or better, and a Gun Owners of America rating of A- or better. You have to combine the two because ACU doesn't track gun votes in its ratings; it focuses instead on abortion, taxes, environment, and national defense/military issues. I'd also use GOA's rating system over NRA's because I've seen too many NRA A-raters screw us over.

Or maybe we could just recognize that he's stating a political reality, rather than inferring he's making a statement about his opinion of the issue?

If you're looking strictly for pro-gun Republicans, as I said, go to the GOA ratings and pull out the names of the Senators, Congressmen, and Governors who are A- or better. Sadly, the list is very short.

If you're looking for "who appeals to people" - aka "electability" - then you have to consider the package. I suspect given your other posts that you're thinking ahead to 2008, and who are the Republicans going to run against Hillary? If that's the plan, then I applaud you because this is the right time to be looking. I've spent time in the GOP as the chair of a Candidate Search Committee, and two to three years before our local/state elections is when we'd start looking at potential candidates. So, it's not too early now to be looking to the 2008 Presidential race.

My statement about Condi was not meant to start a debate on the subject of abortion. Rather, it's a fact that a pro-choice Republican has about as much choice of winning the Presidential nomination as an anti-gun Republican, given that gun owners and pro-lifers are both core constituencies in the GOP.

It is rather pointless to have a political discusion and only allow one issue to be mentioned. Barring the total collapse of the two party system which won't happen this year and most likely not be 2008 either, the next POTUS will be either Bush or Kerry. And if RKBA is your issue then your only realistic choise is Bush. So just mentioning a political reality like ones stance on abortion, supreme court nominees, tax reform, welfare issues, etc. shouldn't disqualify such a post. I am aware of the new guidellines but threads such as this become as I said above pointless, IMHO if you can't at least mention other issues. Now if you starting debating the merits of a pro vs anti abortion stance then you could be out of line.

Rice, Powell and Keyes none of these have shown they could even get elected dog catcher. If you want a black conservative who has never won an election and who we can know how he stands on many issues then I would suggest Walter Williams.

My alternates to Bush would be someone like Bob Barr or Dick Armey. Or maybe Phil Gramm.
