Narrative Fail: Orlando Shooter Used Sig MCX not AR-15

The operator-level functions are the same, SIG MCX rifles take STANAG magazines, and uppers fit on standard AR lowers.

Saying that this isn't an AR-15 is like saying that an FN sporting rifle isn't a Mauser because it wasn't made in Oberndorf-am-Neckar.

What I'm saying is there's no point in splitting hairs.

How do You guys/gals counter typical responses of "Who needs that much ammo in a gun"?

I'd disallow the question and frame the problem correctly. Focusing on how much ammunition or the type of firearm, etc is a distraction that frames the weapon as the problem. The only thing people should be addressing are the root causes of this act. Terrorism is one, mental illness may be another...but the gun is not. Just as the airplane wasn't the CAUSE of the problem in the 9/11 attacks.

The gun and the ammo are simply the tools that were used this time. Next time it could be a car bomb, or a knife, or a pistol, a car, an airplane...don't focus on the "what he used"...focus on the "why he did it."

If you don't solve the "why", then you will continue to lose...and make no mistake...this is what losing feels like. If our politicians don't address the CAUSES of these attacks, then we will continue to lose and watch more fellow Americans be slaughtered by what is a relatively easy enemy to defeat. Our current leadership simply lacks the will to destroy them where they are.

The ISIS terror group, inspired by jihadist ideology is trying to kill us. Political correctness and feel good measures on our part are distractions that keep us from solving the PROBLEM, and will only help that ideology succeed in killing us faster. We will be hopelessly and continuously unprepared for the next attacks unless we address the cause of these problems.

My wife was an Army (Quartermasters) brat growing up and although she hasn't been around guns to speak of until '07, she is very tolerant.

But today somebody quoted on Fox News said that you could "shoot about 40 people in a minute" with the killer's rifle.

My wife's reaction: "Who needs that much ammo in a gun?"
I then brought down four 10-rd. Saiga 7.62x39 magazines, and said that they could be taped together in two L-shaped pairs, quickly rotated Israeli Army Reserve style, and it would make little difference.

Some argue that the weapon used is a moot point. I agree with that to an extent. I will say that the failure of the liberal media to identify the weapon used shows how the liberals are so quick to play off tragedies that they don't get their facts straight. Also, it shows how unknowlegable these people are about guns. Shucks, if the media was anything but liberal, we'd see headlines reading "AR15 not Responsible" and the like. However, if anything, the liberals will play the MCX off as an even more evil variant of gun that wasn't around 10 years ago and must be stopped in addition to the AR15.

The Virginia Tech shooter Cho, killed 33 and injured 23 with two pistols, a Glock 9mm and a Walther .22lr. 10 & 15 round mags. No AR or any other black rifle. Mateen probably could have done the same damage with handguns.

Ellsnjel,

Bill Nelson. Yes same guy the NRA call alert went out for yesterday.

I seem to recall his number was 202 224 5274 for all the good it will do to urge him to support 2amd causes.

Just recalled another (just as asinine) argument.

I was watching a court case where a woman was suing her boyfriend for Veterinary expenses. During an argument, her ******bag boyfriend picked up her small poodle & threw him across the living room, causing several fractures & $4,000.00 in Vet bills (which he had to pay).
After she testified, the judge looked at the boyfriend & asked, "Well, what's your defense?"
The boyfriend said, "It happened in the kitchen...not the living room."
