Or at least any direction on why? Is it because of the flare I am putting for lead possibly?

I cant think of any reason other than it being a pain, but can you see a downside of just running it like this for now? Just not sure if the sticking is causing any kind of harm I would be avoiding

Chuck the ptx in a drill, wrap some 600 grip on the edge of a popsicle stick and polish near the flare step. Finish with 1600. Polish only to smooth and remove tool marks. Dont worry too much about changing the exact dia, those are for flare and not expansion and they flare way too much IMO so a slight reduction is not an issue.

Are you using new brass or brass that has been stripped 100% clean with stainless steel media? The sooty insides of previously fired cases are well lubricated with carbon for easy extraction off the ptx plug. Could also be that you have a new and rough ptx expander. You can polish this down with fine grit sandpaper or with time. In the meantime, you can put a tiny bit of case lube just inside the mouth of the case. I lube case mouths whenever I have to deal with new brass. Pulling the cases off of the expander plug can get tiresome after a while.

Are you sure it's the PTX sticking? If you flare too much, the case will hit hard going into the seater die, and feel just like sticking. I quit with PTX and now use separate expander dies. Instead of belling the case mouth, they simply spread it. You get much more positive seating and crimping, and no hangups.

Dumb question.. But I see people polishing down this and that all the time. How exactly are you attaching these parts to the chuck?

I cant take any off the top cause I need that flare (my cast 9mm at .357) and other than the sticking it is flaring perfect right now, which I was told when reading up before my press came in that it wouldn't so I am happy with it other than the stick.

I have been lubing with one-shot and tried a generous amount just to see if that was it and it still sticks.

And I am flaring alone right now. I was told to get the individual stations working first before running a full press, which has been good advice since the primer setup took a while to tweak (as is this one)

I am using new brass.. I'm going to try some of my previously fired brass/cleaned brass that was just tumbled and try it

I use a bolt with a little tape on it, push inside of ptx and then chuck it up like a drill bit. For 357 or 9mm i think its 1/4 but might be 5/16 with a wtap of masking tape makes it secure enough and not much runout.

Bad news is I thought I was missing a new tool piece I could buy that you were going to tell me about...

Good news is that's all it was! I have gotten the "polish it out" answer on SO many little issues here and there and it was never the solution. Glad to see it finally solved something.

For anyone searching for this is the future.. I used 1000 and it fixed it pretty quick, I would use 1600+ like suggested above, it will still do the trick (fairly certain) and will come out a little smoother.

Thanks!
