Hey guys, so i am looking at purchasing a xdm, well i ended up looking at pawn shop at a 3.8 which i feel is a bit small for me. not doing conceal carry with it. but i was wondering if anyone has input on how the slide pull is on the 4.5? the 3.8" felt really stiff. as if it hadn't been lubricated in months... i laughed at the pawn shops price though... they wanted $680.

You should not really be able to tell any difference between the force required to rack the slide between the 4.5 and 3.8 versions (assuming both are the same caliber)

...and yes, you pawn shop is smoking crack with that price. I just bought a barely used XDm 4.5 9mm with the case, backstraps, mag holder, holster and 2 mags for $399.

I own an XDM 3.8 and 4.5 in 9mm and both are great shooters.

I also bought an XDM in 45 with a 4.5" barrel for $500 and it too is a great shooter. The only thing that would make the XD series of pistols better is to get rid of the pointless grip safety.

When used correctly during re-holstering the grip safety is a useful negligent discharge avoidance tool.

I've owned a 3.8 Compact for five years and it has functioned flawlessly. I've never thought the slide was hard to rack. I can rack mine quite easily while holding it against my jeans on my outer thigh doing one handed reload drills...with dummy rounds of course for safety purposes. The only complaint I have with the 3.8 is the grip is about 1/4 inch too short.
