I refinished the fore end and stock on my Rossi 92 today. Looks great, but upon reassembly half the head on my magazine plug screw broke off. Anyone know where a replacement can be bought? Having trouble finding a vendor.

Call Rossi. They may send you one free. That's been my experience with several manufacturers when you need a small part.

Some Ace Hardware stores now have a selection of "gun screws". Don't know where you are but if you have a home town Ace Hardware store it might be worth a try.

I did contact Rossi. They have the part, but said they would not guarantee it will work since my Rossi was an Interarms import and they don't know if it is the same threads. Guess I'll roll the dice on this one. :uhoh:

Oh, any pics of the wood refinished? I've got a new R92 on layaway that I'll be bringing home in 2 weeks, I'll need to do the same.

Rondog, some of them are not all that bad looking. It varies. But one that a buddy bought recently has a pretty nice looking finish.

My real beef with the Rossi stocks is the clumsy shaping around the front of the comb where it drops down to the neck. On a couple I did some time back I sharpened that area up a little and gave the stock more of a transition from the deep oval to the round neck more as seen on a nice Winchester stock. It really adds a nice touch.

The rifles are with their owners but you may be able to see the reshaping in this picture along with the new staining and oil finish I had to give this wood. The stock stuff at this point in time (about two years ago) had a distinctly pink color to the varnish. It was HORRIBLE ! ! ! Not just for being quite pink but the muddy look it gave the wood grain. Rossi wood isn't all that showy to begin with and a muddy varnish just hides it that much more.

I also did a little easing of some sharp edges and shaped the nose of the fore stock slightly One was just basic radiusing. The other I went with a little more aggresive shaping.

I had a similar issue with mine (at least i think we are talking about the same thing.) this sounds nuts but what I did was simply JB weld the tube to the front barrel ring. It took about 2 drops and I made sure it was good and hidden between the ring and the tube. Now, I can still remove the tube by removing the front barrel ring.

If you can show a pic or two it would help. It sounds like a crap job but it has been that way for more than a couple of years without any movement and you cannot even see the difference.

If you consider this option, just make sure that you position the barrel ring exactly where it needs to be so that the tube is snugly in place when you put it on. Then make sure you have some cotton swabs and alcohol to clean up any jb weld that might end up where you can see it.

I contacted Rossi Customer Service. They had the screw but, couldn't guarantee it would fit do to the age of my gun. I got the part in 3 days. The screw was a little long but that was an easy fix. Rossi Customer Service gets an A Plus on this one.
