I have only heard the great reputation of their rails and sights and various other parts. I don't have a DI AR-15 style rifle, so I was about to pick this one up. I do not want to build a rifle, just want something reliable and well made out of the box I can just throw and optic on and roll. Thoughts on this? It seems like a solid deal.

Thoughts? It's sitting in my cart online right now...

You bought a new gun that you wanted. If you are looking for someone to tell you that you shouldn't have bought a gun that you wanted, you are on the wrong forum... :D

Haha, fair enough. I didn't want to break the bank but I wanted a solid rifle that goes bang when I pull the trigger and a good warranty in case it doesn't. I think I did ok.

Looks like they are sold out now. I wouldn't have kicked myself if I waited for advice :p

(would still like to hear from anyone that owns a Troy Defense rifle)

I remember reading about Troy along time ago on ar15.com
I'll never buy anything made by Troy

I have an understanding with Troy Industries.

I don't send them any of my money and they don't send me any of their products. It works out really well

I am going to need to do some more research before I boycott a company due to the hiring of one employee that may or may not have committed a crime/and or intended to commit a crime 20+ years ago.

Several employees, actually. (Not that they committed crimes, necessarily, just that they are about as far distant from people you'd want to be associated with as you're likely to find, who aren't actually felons.)

But yes, by all means do the research.

Somehow I had missed the information on Troy Industries hiring practices. Good to know. I don't believe I will be purchasing anything from them anytime soon.

Research Troy's hiring practices.

Once you do so, you will never want to give them any of your money.

It seems somewhat odd to me to boycott a company due to a couple rubbish hirelings. I mean, I dont like Bill Gates, but I'm not switching to Apple or Linux anytime soon...:scrutiny:

I don't like any of the liberal Apple founding fathers, but I wouldn't buy anything but a Mac :)

The thing is with Troy, there are plenty of competitors that make competing products of similar or superior cost and value. That gives me the option to avoid purchasing from a company who's hiring practices go against my values. In other circumstances you don't have that option (Silicon Valley is a liberal cesspool).

Jackal, obviously a lot of folks agree with you. From outward appearances, Troy maintains a healthy business. Either people people don't know or people don't care.

However, with so many options available, i choose to spend my money with companies that don't hire folks who are accessories to murder

Word was that Troy tried to hire Lon Horiuchi, but HS Precision got him first. IIRC, then they hired a known anti-gunner. They canned him and picked up Horiuchi's partner, who stated he would have taken the shot if Horiuchi had not.

I am sure its just as odd to us that anyone would want to support a company that hires people like this.

I am glad folks have done their research. When this thread first opened I was going to mention the less than sterling character of some of their staff ,but figured I would get banned because my thought was not "high road" as it had to do with the very dark past of a certain someone ....now of course that is MHO. That is one company that I will never deal with.

They killed those people without offering any terms of surrender. What about that fact is "high road"?

Getting away with murder ain't "not doing anything criminal" in my mind. They didn't go to jail or anything. But wasting a women holding a child is something I couldn't ever do.

Check out MAS defense, BCM, Larue, Noveske, DD, Colt, PSA, or build your own.
