Have any of you guys ever had experience with the Winchester 94 Top eject .44?

I see one for sale and it is a 'post 64', top eject, in .44 magnum.

Do they function well? I've shot Marlins but never a Winchester .44 magnum.

thanks,

I had one and could kick myself for ever selling it. Nice rifles.

Sights aren't phenomenal, but very usable. Actions are not BLR type smooth, but definitely not hard to work. I sold mine when they were somewhat popular and easy to replace. Never got around to it and now the prices have gone up dramatically, to the point where i cannot justify it simply because of "want". I may resort to using Ohio's new deer hunting laws to convince my wife I "need" to spend the money.

Thanks. They want $500 but being on consignment they may very well come down some.

Has a Williams peep sight on the back.

In good condition, $500 is a fair price. If they come down a little, that's even better for you. If you've got the hankering for one, pick it up. Availability, at least in my area, tends to be spotty.

Purchased mine back in the ladder 1070's. This one shoots like hell fire. I can't even tell you how much meat it's put in the freezer. Two of my Sons and my oldest Grandson shot their first deer with it.
I still have the sales slip, 87.00 and some change after tax

Have dad's. He got it around 1970. Shoots jacketed great, lead only good up to about 1300 fps or so. Rifling looks suspiciously like microgroove. Very sensitive to cartridge oal. Wouldn't think of selling it. Price isn't bad. We sold one like it out of the shop a couple years ago for $450. Should be 90% or better for that price. They are really light and do kick with the old Norma 240s.

Whoa. When the choice is between a bronze broadsword and a .44 Winchester I always go with the Winchester!

It has been awhile since I've shot one, but dang, was it a slick rifle. If the price is right, jump on it.

I got one in a trade years ago. I keep hoping Illinois will open up whitetail rifle in pistol calibers. It's what call an honest rifle. Does just what you expect every time with no surprises. Accuracy is atleast adequate and the .44 mag in a rifle is not the same as pistol.

I have a 1994 mfg. Winchester 94AE Trapper, and like it a lot. Still trying to get it to like lead bullets, but it does well with jacketed. It's the Angle Eject though, not Top Eject. Paid $400 for mine, I doubt $500 is out of line.

In the cowboy action group these handgun caliber 94's have a reputation for not being as fast and slick as a '92 action. Something about using a short cartridge in an action intended for longer cartridges. It's not even that it spits the rounds out. Just that when trying to cycle really fast it sticks part way through loading the fresh round quite often and requires a bit of a wiggle with the lever. But slow down to "merely quick" with the lever and it runs like a dream.

A buddy of mine has one in .45 Colt and lived with the slight sticking for a couple of years. Other than this the rifle shoots just fine. And if the lever is slowed down just a hair from full on cowboy action gaming speeds it's slick as snot on a door knob. So I guess it comes down to how you intend to use it.

I like mine although I have had it for many years I have not played with it too much. I played with it a bit last fall and was going to use her for ohio deer. I want/need a better sight- I want a decent peep.

If that gun has a peep already and they come down a bit I would say its a great deal... they are not easy or cheap to find. They make a great house/respose gun also that is more sheeple friendly
