I like the heavier bullets - - -
- - Which also happen to be the load around which the .45 autoloader was designed. Every full-size AND every Commander I've ever owned functioned just fine with standard 230 gr. fmj loads. For the eight or ten years before I retired, my agency issued Speer Gold Dot 230s. I tested that load extensively in two LW Cdrs, three Govt. models and one NM Gold Cup. It shot to the fixed sights without tinkering, and I bought quite a bit of it besides what I was issued.
I tried several types of higher-velocity and +P ammo, but kept coming back to the standard velocity 230 GDHP. My rapid fire strings were more easily controlled than with the hotter loads. Besides, I didn't like the idea of accelerating wear and tear on my sidearms.
Your choices may not tally with mine, of course. Use whatever load with which you're comfortable. I'm satisfied with my what I choose.
