Anyone buying and putting away AR lower receivers?

I plan on picking up a lower or two for my kids, to slowly work builds, along with reloading supplies. . . But i hope we dont have to deal with a panic. As we know it doesnt take much

Side note: isolated incidents during katrina, or in the NE where liberals rule the world is not indicative of the rest of the country. Who would try and confiscate guns in rural Georgia or any other red state? Local LE would find it difficult to take guns away from their friends and families and i wager would not fully comply. The feds dont have the manpower, and the military just wont do it, so if firearms doomsday arrives, we will still be armed, but wont be able to shoot, buy new ones or use them for defense without fear of big brother pressing charges. . . But thr millions of guns will stay

My oldest (7) wanted an AR, so I built one for him the way he wanted. My wife and I each have one. My younger (5) is more interested in shotguns, my youngest (3) claimed her mother's pink .22 rifle, and seems more interested in pistols. Point is, everyone who wants an AR has one, and the AR is not the only firearm out there, I am not going to build them something they don't want, just so they can have one in the safe. My $0.02

Drove to a nearby GS. Spotted a shelf with a dozen Anderson lowers. Asked what they were getting for them. I was told the owner was buying them all and they weren't for sale to the public.

I can only wonder if he is anticipating a Hillary presidency...

No and as someone mentioned if things were to go south again the parts will go with the receivers I figure. I do have a good supply of parts to make sure what I have last. Last as in well into my grandchildren's lifetime, long after I checkout. :)

No I am not. Not because of any political reasons. It's because I'd have to buy all the other parts as well. The lowers are the cheap part. As much as it doesn't make have sense to have an upper w/ no lower. I'm more inclined to build out uppers and swap them between the lowers I currently have.

If it ever comes to turn ins required. Bet a lot of freshly stripped lowers get turned in, with the parts held, or claimed they were sold off ahead of time.

Lowers seem to turn into completed AR's petty quickly.

I have thought about a dedicated 9mm lower for fun and doing it one piece at a time.

A guy told me (in person, on ATL's D Concourse) that he "has 200 ARs". No more details than that.
He is in the same 'field', and was USMC. This brief chat was about six months ago.

I'm going to pick up a couple of stripped lowers in a few weeks. They are cheap now and it is always a good plan to keep them on hand if you are an AR15 enthusiast.

Not to keep rocking the boat (metaphorically), but how would the gov't confiscate the millions of firearms already in circulation?

If that was the case, they should start confiscating those firearms or "Assault Weapons/Rifles" in the hands of criminals first. I'd like to see that...

Nope not a single one. While I own several AR's they just do not intrigue me as much as other guns. So the ones I do own will last my lifetime +

Nope; got one more lower half than I need right now....I'm not stocking up with things for the neighbors.
That's the same boat I'm in ... I've got way more than I "need". If I'm buying anything else it will be ammo.

The market has been flooded a couple times already, which is why there is such a huge surplus ... its been 30 years since I've seen prices as cheap ... if you keep an eye on places like PSA you can put together a functional AR from "blem" uppers and lowers for about $400.

Most people that thought they should get an AR, panicked in one of the many panics in the last few years; they got screwed over and paid double, triple and in some cases quadruple prices for a basic build because they didn't know any better and I think most have learned from that experience ... plus, now with all the 80% receivers I really don't see a point.

I bought a few as they were cheap and available locally. Did upcoming election influence my decision? Sure, somewhat. I have no doubt I can find a way to build out a few ARs on my stripped lowers. 300blk.... Varmint-style 223... Maybe a pistol? Or if the price is right, I'd not think twice about flipping them. The way I figure it, either way I win.

Where are Anderson lowers selling for $40 each?

They were $50 / ea, limit of 3 at primary arms a couple weeks ago.

PSA had complete, blemished lowers with CTR stocks for ~$175 at the same time. I ordered some 'lower build kits' for $130; had them in hand w/i 10 days. YMMV on the delivery as I've heard some complaints on their shipping.

FWIW, 1985 would have been a fine time to purchase a few colt M-16's and 1774 would have been a fine time to stockpile powder. If you have a few bucks laying around, buy firearms and ammo along with whatever you and your family might need in case of emergency.

I did that a long time ago, haha... now I'm building them into rifles to sell around election time!

I have not stocked up on anything, but I have considered picking up certain parts to hang on to and make some money the next Dem that gets elected.
Such as 30 round mags. They were selling for $70-$80 each during the last panic.

I am building my first AR, even though I am not a huge fan of tactical rifles. I am much more into wood and blue stuff, but the way the political climate is, I figured I better build one while I can do so easily and inexpensively.

When I hear these stories I always wonder how much ammo I guy like this has. Assuming he’s talking about complete rifles, does he have even $25K worth of ammo to go with his $100K + in rifles or does he have a collection of oddly shaped clubs?

I already have two complete rifles, so I'm waiting for the Labor Day sale at Palmetto, to pick up a mid-length melonite upper. Both of my rifles are carbines and I'd like to try a middy. Plus, it'd be nice to have a spare.

I figure I can pick one up for $200 shipped.

I always try to keep the upper-to-lower ratio at 1:1. I bought two new uppers this year, so I built up two lowers. One is my new 6.8 SPC II deer rifle, and the other is my .223 varmint gun.

Yeah, not quite yet. Not until he can double or triple his money on them when it gets crazy.
