how many have been to the Avon cabelas for you shooting needs?

I went there last night in search of 22 scope rings, reloading supplies and a few other shooting needs and not one person in that place has a clue what they are doing. they have maybe 3 peg shelves of scope rings and not 1 22 ring set. I swear last week when I was in there a guy said I want a ruger 10/22and the gun counter guy says what caliber.

I asked a guy walking down the aisle way who worked there where something was and he says I have to go upfront ill send someone back to help you and walked away. prices on guns are through the roof. I picked up a Mossberg 500 20ga youth model and they wanted $400 used for it. $400 for a used Mossberg 500. probably tacked $200 on cause its Camo.

I also found it pretty funny I was wearing a Michigan cabelas t shirt and 3 people asked me questions and I said I don't work here and they said oh your the only person i seen with cabelas shirt on.

you would think being cabelas the shooting/hunting would be huge in that store but its catered to more hiking, boating, fishing. its a shame too cause its in my city i would love to have a place close by to buy things but nope. i wont go back. 3 times looking for things and never found them.

I used to do a fair amount of shopping at the Buda, TX Cabelas. Their pricing structure was funny (during their "gun show" even used guns were selling for more than identical brand new guns at the regular counter!) but if I combined sales with coupons and Cabela's bucks, I'd do alright.

On a few occasions I needed help, and the employee actually DID help me, doing his job, just like I'd expect.

Now the best coupons have been discontinued (e.g., get a $150 gift card with a $500 purchase) and the other coupons are being saddled with all manner of restrictions and fine print, so the actual "deals" are quite rare on anything except Cabela's-brand clothing . . . some of which is pretty good, but some is cr@p.

The Avon Cabelas has one of the best selections of ammunition I've seen in one place, here in NE Ohio. Been there twice, and left with a few boxes both times.

I tend to go to my local Cabelas for very specific things (ammo, reloading stuff, shooting accessories). Luckily, haven't had to ask anyone for directions yet as they can be hard to track down.

I love having the store here. Only place around here that even has 22LR ammo (and tons of it).

Prices at Cabelas can be all over the map for used firearms. I'm fortunate enough to live 5 minutes away from the one in CT. However, as one poster stated, if you wait for one of their 10% off used guns sales and combine it with another coupon, you can do pretty good. For the most part, I've found their staff helpful and kind.

I think it's the price of used firearms that match what they have in stock that are the highest. They seem to be priced equal to what they have new, sometimes more if there's a sale going on. My guess is that while they do sell used firearms, they'd much rather sell new and the pricing reflects that.

I went there the Saturday after they opened. It was a madhouse.

The best thing about them is selection and quantity of ammunition. I found the Hornady 200gr. .45acp JHP that nobody else had. Strangely, I don't think they had ANY Speer handgun ammunition at all.

I would definitely go there for ammunition and reloading supplies.

I'm from Avon originally. I'm amazed every time I go home. Land I walked while hunting now has big buildings on it. Hard to believe a small town could blow up that fast.

Yes. My second home was Greensboro, North Carolina. Same situation. Land that my brother in law and I hunted for squirrels and rabbits in 1957, are now endless housing tracts..

Like North Carolinian Thomas Wolfe said in 1937, " You can't go home again." Sad but true words.

Price matching is a joke also. I purchased a Smith M&P and asked them to match a better price at Academy. They called from somewhere in the back and said the Academy model only came with 1 mag. I believed it and paid higher price. I called Academy later and they said no, same exact package. I did complain and received a gift card but not impressed at all.

Not exactly the same thing. Avon was a farm town surrounded by suburbs. The locals kept voting down putting in sewers knowing what would happen. The state stepped in and put them in leaving farmers with huge sewer taxes because of their frontage so they had to sell. In less than 10 years it became a suburb with every big box store known to man and finally a Cabellas. I guess I'm way off topic now so I'll stop.

i remember how this was also and its a shame. are you familiar with chestnut rd and 113 near rt 20? that area was once woods, fields, etc and now its turning onto avon commons. Walmart went up and everyone and their mother wanted to build there. I have a lot of land around me that is farm land and now has for sale residential signs. I didn't move to the country to be closer to the city but now its coming.

I will probably go there for stuff like 22 ammo, some shotgun shells, stuff they have and I need that day but for some reason I don't like that place. lol. i guess its the prices, lack of CS, etc.

news flash: cabelas prices are higher than internet gun warehouses and they price their used guns higher than they should.

NEXT!

There were some deals last time I went. For example Makarov in excellent condition $218, P-64 $209, 12 ga model 12 in very good condition for $400. Sixteen gauge 1oz and 1&1/8oz loads for $7 per box. Those are not bad prices.

I haven't been to any Cabela's for a couple of years.
The one in Columbus is only a mile from my front door. But, after my initial 3 visits, the attraction wore off.

I had not been in a Cabelas in several years as the closest is about a hundred miles away.
Went into one in Utah while on vacation and saw several things on sale at fair prices. (CCI 22LR ammo & powder)
Went up to checkout and they had an 'apply for our Visa card and get a $25 credit on it' deal. Took about 15 minutes to do it but I was in no hurry.
Last week they had a smoking online deal with free shipping on powder & primers for the holiday. Some of the 8 pound canisters of powder were $100 less than the LGS so bought a couple of them.
(LGS is real proud of their merchandise!):what:

Never been to Avon but I find the Bass Pro in Mesa has better selection for most things than Cabela's in Glendale (but the prices are high in both cases). Of course Sportsman's Warehouse beats them both on price and we have a couple of those in the Phoenix area.

Of the national chains, we've only got Gander Mountain and [recently] Cabelas.

We have a local chain called Fin, Feather, Fur Outfitters. They have good prices and service and have expanded their locations. I bought my last gun, a Citadel 3.5 CS there. If I buy a new Glock 23, it'll probably be from there.

ive been going to fin for years and like the service, some prices and the help they offer. I called cabelas the other day to ask about a treestand and was told archery couldn't take my call they were busy. I went there 2 times looking for this stand cause it said in stock online so figured call before making a 3rd.

fin has a more home feel than cabelas.
