Will the slide from a Mkll BHP fit on the frame of a Mklll BHP?

Yes it will, but I would be more concerned about good barrel to slide fit at the locking lugs.

Just learned some good news. Bar-Sto make a 9mm barrel that will fit in a .40 S&W hi power & it is supposed to work. That would save a lot of time and money since I was going to buy a used BHP slide and a Bar-Sto barrel to convert my .40 BHP. Recoil reduction is the goal for my arthritic hands.

I don't have an answer to that question. I do know that more than one company offers barrels to convert .40 to 9mm. Several of them are highly regarded companies. http://www.barsto.com/category_main.cfm?ID=BHP
The extractor on a BHP can be adjusted to compensate for the variation in rim diameter.
There is a long wait time for one of these barrels. When I get it and do the conversion, I'll report on my success or perhaps less than success here.

The real problem is not with the extractor - it can be tuned as you say. But the breech face is about 0.035" wider on the .40 S&W slide and that will lead to the occasional failure to eject. All of the .40 to 9mm conversions suffer from this. Some people say, that their pistols are 100% reliable, but when you dig in to the story almost anytime there is an FTF here and there that they are blaming on the ammo and not on the pistol. Well, there MIGHT be some 100% reliable conversions, but I would not count on that. If you want just a range gun for fun, than the conversion might be just what you want, but do consider that the recoil will be somewhat bigger with the .40 S&W slide because it is heavier than the 9 mm one.
My advice, and it's only a personal opinion, is to look for an used FN Hi-Power beater gun. Replace all of the springs with Wolff service pack type 2, make some DIY muzzle crown and you are good to go. One last thing - you may want to consider a smaller radius firing pin stop (retaining plate) similar to this one: http://doublercustom.com.au/Browning-Hi-Power-9mm-Handgun-Firing-Pin-Stop-P5492117.aspx or one from older, WW II and before, Hi-Powers. When the gun is fired it will increase the push, but it will decrease the muzzle flip. And, sadly, it will also make the slide harder to rack.

I just like the BHP feeling in the hand, it just fits me nicely.

I did know that the Mklll frames were stronger and a bit heavier but not the slides.

"...Recoil reduction is the goal for my arthritic hands..." Hi. You didn't mention that on the FL. How bad is the arthritis? Any gripping issues?
I'm thinking a light, cast bullet, load might work ok. If you can hold the pistol. 121 grain cast TC's(truncated cone) with 3.5 of Bullseye is a nice tame load.
