what's the general opinion on these ?
looking at an 5.56 ranch model on sale for $360

They use the same 3 lug bolt and barrel configuration on their precision rifle. That should say something.

It's a inexpensively made rifle and uses the barrel nut just like Savage 10/110. Because it works.

It's accurate and inexpensive.

One of my best friends has had the Ruger American in 30.06 for about 4 years. He's quite happy with it and has taken several deer and many wild hogs.

Said the price was right and the rifle decently made. Above average accuracy. No frills or fluff, but he doesn't need that.

as stated solid little rifle, if a bit overbuilt for then .378 case head rounds. I have a ranch in .300aac, shoots great but the MAG doesn't like short coal rounds, shouldn't be an issue with the .223 version tho.

I luv mine !!! Here was a month ago when I took mine to the range for the first time and the first 4 shoots at 100 yards !!! c8beae9c00adf9e8afbb1e3a526aa791.jpg 30a8844854f8ee45687b25f9971100cf.jpg 1e08e6f6385616a5905c26eff08adc3a.jpg

Its a way to get the RPR Action/Barrel without the RPR price.

I picked one up for a build for around 315$ in 6.5CM. You can take the action, get a barrel, and get a stock for it. Bam, new rifle. You can find some good ones now a days like machined chassis (think XLR) that don't require bedding. So if you want something you can get out and shoot with now, its a nice little rig. Just keep in mind the super thin barrel gets hot really fast. So you have to baby the temps. Easy to do with a McMaster-Carr Temp Strip.

In all reality, its a good way to get out and shoot until you acquire all the parts to do an upgrade. 390$ I think now?

I got the short predator in 308. Very impressed with the design, accuracy, and value. Hoping to get a deer with it this fall.

My brother has that rifle and a Predator in 6.5 Creed. I have the Predator in 308 and a compact in 223. All 4 rifles are tack drivers.

The optic on it is a vortex crossfire II 3x9 !!! Inexpensive but very nice scope !!!! Highly recommend it

I have a vortex diamond back 4x12 on another rifle good scope ,
Looks like the crossfire Matchs the ranch nicely

I have the 16 inch version in .223. It was fairly picky about ammo - I took several different commercial loads to the range, all decent quality, i.e. no random 55 FMJ. I got 2 to 3 MOA from most, but one (Black Hills 60 gr Vmax) was pretty good. I got some 60 gr Vmax bullets and fiddled a little with powder weights, and it will reliably give about 1.25 MOA 10 shot groups. This is off a bipod.

Given the twist, I was surprised the heavier bullets didn't do better.

I'm no great shakes as a rifle shooter, and not a particularly fussy reloader. I did use one of the expensive Redding seater dies, but just used full length sized Lake City brass. No neck turning, neck sizing, primer hole uniforming, no concentricity indicators, etc. The magazine won't let you load out to the lands with the 60 gr Vmax.

A more careful reloader and better shooter might get smaller groups; 1.25 was accurate enough for my purposes, so I stopped futzing and went shooting :)

my brother and I shoot and own quite a few Ruger rifles. both of us own americans in 22lr and he owns the american ranch in 223 and loves it, although I doubt that he's even shot it yet. I almost bought one myself here a couple months back but I ended up buying a Howa instead, just last minute kneejerk reaction, now given current circumstances, I wish I'd gone with the american. they're great guns for the money.

I have been only shooting 55 Gr bullets ... very reliable and accurate with this kind

I have the predator in 6.5 CM and it is extremely accurate. It is a great action and barrel. The barrel cleans extremely easy and copper fouling is much less with far more expensive guns I've owned. Only downside is the cheap stock which is probably why the rifle is so affordable. 7eddf5e670627dba4aba267351a2121e.jpg fcf68b13e64b0150ca9f5ce83dff5609.jpg f83b4bc49ea7647fcf6c2a04e089c16b.jpg 2ec9c7d4b68874a82aff432cd19740f4.jpg

I have the Ruger American Rimfire (.22lr) and The standard Ruger American (.308). Both are good shooting rifles. With my latest trip to the range the .308 gave me .75 MOA 5-shot groups and a couple clover leaf 3-shot groups. The .22 is also a tack Driver. That being said, on both rifles I had to sand down the stock to clear the free floated barrel. The .308 can b picky about ammo, but good match stuff shoots great. As mentioned previously, the barrel warms up fast. I usually keep it to 3-shot strings when testing ammo or shooting for groups. The .22 version is probably one of the best in its price class. Have to say I am now a Ruger fan!!

Yep. Those look like my groups. My Predator 6.5 shoots sub-MOA. My only gripe with the Americans are the triggers. I have had 3 and never found a trigger that suited me. Maybe I am to picky.

I have the rifle you're asking about. I started reloading for it and haven't found "the" load for it yet (4 different gun powders). However, with the loads I have tested so far, the gun is a great shooter. Last week my wife shot it at 200 yards and had a 5 shot group under 3 inches, my 5 shot group at the same distance was just over 2 inches. Neither she or I are expert rifle shooters but I was very satisfied with the accuracy of the rifle.

For the money it's a great shooting gun, I think you'd be happy with it.

I have not found a load my .223 ranch likes yet. I like the gun tough, i'm sure I will find a load.

My first American was a rimfire compact that is quite a nice .22 and very accurate. I then bought a Ranch in 300 Blackout that shoots well with some ammo and just ok with other loads. Seems to like 125 gr the best and will shoot a ragged hole, usually with a flyer an inch out. I have some feed problems even with FMJ, the rotary mag feels cheap and not a satisfactory unit yet.
The rifle is short with a heavy barrel and carries well and balanced just right at the shoulder.
When I find the correct load this will be a great hog hunter.

This is what I used with my RAR ... Totally reliable 100 percent of the time 4b6b87162ed95bba6f262023bba8012a.jpg
