Hello, Looking for advice on parts for an old press. I bought this Hornady Pro-7 and a number of other shotshell loading press off a fellow who listed them for a deal on armslist. I plan to get this press running properly to be a dedicated 38 special press.

I called Hornady, and while nice and pleasant to speak to, the guy wasn't very helpful or reassuring. Lots of "I think" and "probably not"'s. The guy simply wasn't familiar with the press. I should have asked to speak to someone else but didn't want to sound rude.

1- shellplates. I see conflicting info out there. hornady says here http://www.hornady.com/assets/files/catalog/2009/78_shell_plates.pdf that their LNL shellplates work for a hornady projector(from what I understand simply a Pro-7 with a case kicker?) Then I see others saying you have to modify the shellplates to get them to work in the Pro-7.

2- The pin that holds the shellplate in position appears to have snapped off deep inside. How do I remedy this? Do I have to replace the entire center ram rod? Or could I try to tap the hole and screw in a little threaded pin?

3- Not that it matters for 38spl, But the large primer pick up tube that was supplied with the press was broken in half. I would also like to get some spare small pick up tubes.

Mike,
Hornady discontinued the ProJector and the Pro 7 presses some time back. Last I checked they were carrying very little parts for the ProJector. It's a big hit or miss to find replacement parts.
They were offering a trade in deal on the ProJector for a LNL AP a while back. And I shipped in the ProJector and got a brand new LNL AP for around $200.

Good luck, I hope you get some answers and good news.

i used LNL parts on my projector but not sure about the pro 7. can't help much with your rod/pin issue. If you buy new primer pick up tubes definitely order them from dillon, there's not much about dillon that I find better than Hornady but their pick up tubes are far far better
