So to make a long story short my wife is tired of my answer of don't spend money on me for my birthday. I figured I would order some mags before the election which I did and have that count as my present. Then I got told that magazines don't count as a birthday present. Yes I know.....first world problems. Anyway I have a few stripped lowers and was thinking of getting parts to finish one to build a rifle.

So I guess my question revolves around how reliable are the ARs in 7.62x39? Does anyone make good uppers? Do the mags work? Should I just stay with 5.56 like the others I have? (I do already have 7.62x39 ammo so that is not a consideration). Should I just ask for another hunting rifle like a CZ in 7.62x39? She said I should spend around $500. So please help internet

I recall reading some time back that there was an issue with bolt lugs shearing due to increased bolt face diameter while maintaining the same outside dimension.

Might want to see if that's been resolved, or maybe it was over-blown when I read it.

I built a PSA 7.62x39, and it has been a champ. As you can see, I am a bit paranoid about accidentally putting .223 in it, so I have a 7.62x39 bolt cover. I also cut a vinyl of the Tula logo to make it harder to miss.

7.62x39 bolts are the weak link..... If your looking to shoot russian steel 5.45x39 is a better option. But hey thats just my opinion.
