anderson-lower.jpg I have been reading a lot on putting together my first ar-15 build, and have all the parts lined up, however I have read there may be a screw problem on my anderson lower....

I bought locally an anderson stripped lower, and then ordered a complete ar-15 kit from palmetto state armory, and am slightly concerned about this issue, supposedly there are known issues on anderson lowers, where a screw hole is not threaded all the way through, and am wondering if I will have this issue, I have attached a photo of the backside of this screw hole on my lower, and need to know if I should be seeking a shorter screw, or going to the trouble of tapping the hole the rest of the way through?

The suspense is killing me. . . for goodness sake, install the grip and find out!

None of my lowers are threaded all the way through. The only reason you'd need to is to install an overlength bolt to limit seat engagement; I prefer the welded solution.

It won't arrive until later today :)
I plan on doing the build on the weekend, if I can hold out that long!

I run shorter grip bolts on anderson lowers. Most of the bolts ive had in the kits end up a not snugging up properly....i also usually have a ton of random screws and fasteners so its not like i have to go looking for them usually.

nice looking kit too!

I may end up not having the issue, as the lower parts kit is magpul MOE, as is the grip, perhaps the problem will solve itself via their parts selection process?

I have built up 3 Anderson lowers. All had a threaded hole that stopped short. I went to the hardware store and picked up a 1/4-28x3/4" cap screw and that fixed the issue.

Put some oil on the screw and thread it in without the grip and find out how much depth you have. Do not over tighten. Then you know what the deal is.

Not a big deal but I have seen a similar thread on several forums.....as stated above Magpul includes a short screw. How do I know which is the short one? Just look at it! The screw will look short, have a big head and no washer, other kits may use small head Allen screw and washer but the screw is obviously not super long. If you should run into a long screw and Anderson lower among your options are: cut the offending part off or use a washer or two. This just does not require a physics professor to come up with a solution.

You should be fine if you use a GI spec grip screw. The problem is that a lot of the commercial LPK's use longer screws. That's possibly because they want to be compatible with a variety of aftermarket grips. I ran into this when assembling a couple of Anderson lowers recenmtly. A trip to my reliable GI parts supplier solved the problem.

All my parts are in, will be putting it all together on Saturday, hopefully shooting it Sunday :)

Just this past week I used a KE Arms lower parts kit to assemble my Mega Arms lower. When I went to attach my pistol grip the screw would thread through the lower and hit the trigger. It wasn't bottomed out either. Simple solution was to take the screw and cut it shorter. It took a few minutes with a cutting wheel on my dremel and then a file to knock off the burr. OP if the screw is too long just cut the screw shorter. VOILA its fixed. Good Luck with your AR-15 build and post pics when you get it all done.

OK, Build is done :)

I know this pales in comparison to many of the nicer ones out there, but not bad for a first effort.....
And before anyone says the handstop is on backwards, I did that intentionally, it just fits my hand better that way. ar-build-done.jpg

went to the local indoor range today and put some rounds down range, everything worked perfectly.
