Skunk sprayed my Labrador

Yep. Opened a door taking the garbage out one night at the bar I worked in, years ago to find Pepe about 3 feet from me pounding his little feet on the pavement. He does that to tell you to go forth and multiply. Left Pepe alone and he left me, no canines involved, alone.
"...Tomato juice does not remove the odour..." Believe it's an old wives tale. M. Le Pew's spray has staying power too. If you or Fido get sprayed, it'll come out when you sweat and/or when Fido is just there.
Peroxide is bleach. Any odd colours appear after?

It's been a long time (30 years) since I've seen a skunk, but this year I have seen at least 3 or 4. Never had a dog sprayed, but I have run over a few.

The smell of skunk spray is attributable to sulfur-based compounds. Mild acids (tomato juice) and bases (peroxide) can be used to break them down, but if used in sufficient concentration to be completely effective, they risk harming to animal. Most pet or farm supply stores sell (or can get) washes that use enzymes to break down the sulfur-based compounds. They are expensive, but very effective.

My father once had a dog that he got as a stray the vet said was a hybrid of a wolf and a black & tan hound. He got sprayed by a skunk. My mother suggested the old tomato juice remedy and it was only marginally effective. The enzyme wash removed almost all of the smell.

I have ranch dogs that are sprayed frequently. A vet recommended Skunk Off. It is amazing. It immediately removes all traces of skunk odor. If it doesn't, you haven't applied it to the right spot yet. Skunk odor is butyl mercaptan. This stuff neutralizes it on contact. Nothing else works, we've tried all the home remedies. Buy a couple of bottles and keep it on hand. You can thank me later.

My cat got sprayed by one. Stunk up the house pretty good. I put him in a five gallon bucket for a scope mouth wash wash. He was a outdoor tough as nails cat, but he always was gentle when you were performing maintenance on him. After the bath he was minty fresh.
