My eyesight has been declining of late, but in the last week, I've got this constant fog to see through in my good eye. My week eye isn't affected and I'm reading only by closing my left eye and using a magnifying glass. It came and went for the first few days, now I have my better days and worse days. Visine eye drops seem to help. I do not think it is a cataract, but strongly suspect glaucoma in that eye. I have an appointment at the eye clinic in Columbus, Texas for next week, earliest they could fit me in. Their glaucoma specialist is booked up for several months.

I'm hoping he'll prescribe me some drops to lower the eye pressure. I've been researching it with the aid of my magnifying glass. I've found drops intended for dogs that are the very same product as those for humans, same concentration, same ingredient, even the same trademark, and they're OTC and only 14 bucks a bottle from online sources. I don't have any insurance, much less medication coverage, will be on medicare November next year when I turn 65. At my age, i hate to lose a whole season considering I might not have many left. I joined a dove hunting club, but birds aren't really down here, yet. Was hoping they'd get here with the front that's coming, but heck, at this point, I can't SEE the birds coming if they were here! My weak eye is barely enough to see where I'm going and driving is a challenge.

Maybe I'll have some drops to treat this condition before duck season starts. Here's hoping. Just another of life's challenges, I suppose.

My wife worked for an opthomologist. Your pressures are up and down, varying your vision. She says the drops will do nothing long term. You need to get to a good opthomologist ASAP. This is nothing to screw with unless you are willing to be blind. Once your eyesight is damaged by glaucoma, it's gone. Her words, not mine. And she has it too. Scares the hell out of her.

Best wishes to you.

MC,

DO NOT wait. Go see a doctor IMMEDIATLY! Any doctor but you need to immediatly get this under control or you will be blind with no hope of regaining your vision!

Immediate isn't soon enough. Damage from glaucoma is permanent. Have someone drive you to another city today if necessary.

Seriously. Turn of the computer and go now.

I echo H&H's response. I have glaucoma and have been treating it for several years with drops. You shouldn't need a specialist, any opthomologist can pressure check and look at the optic nerve. Glaucoma has no symptoms and no pain, you just go blind. I'm no expert, but seeing a fog all the time sounds more like a cataract.

As an aside, this is why you pay an ophthalmologist every year for a checkup even though nothing is wrong with your eyes. This stuff needs to be caught early.

MC, I've learned a lot from your posts over the years, but THR isn't the place for medical advice.

Get your eyes checked out quick, before it becomes something permanent. You can't put a price on your eyesight. I wish you the best.

Exactly. This is a gun forum and your glaucoma is much more than a hunting issue. Good luck with everything!

Mc, If you are like me, you are skeptical of the white coats.
I too have had the dreaded old age eye problems.
The problem is that every part of your body is nourished by red blood cells........
Except your cartilage, epidermis, and the whites of your eyes. These parts only gain nourishment from HYALURONIC ACID. As we get older we produce less of this much needed nourishment.
The good news is you can buy it in capsule form. Ask yourself which is more voodoo?
Big pharma, who demands no claims of cure, be claimed, or something that actually works. Research it for your self. you can find Hyaluronic Acid here;

Several years ago my knee was blown out, the dr. told me he needed to put a fake in. It was late May, I had Whitetail tags for november and wouldn't be able to hunt.
I took 900 mg. a day for 3 months and my knee was healed. As a bonus my eyes went back to my pre- 40's condition. We were in a dimly lit restaurant and the other half said, "You can read this/" and I could, didn't even realize how much better my eye sight was!
Talked with another fellow who bought it where I did and he said his eye sight was getting better at such a rate his optometrist couldn't keep up with the changes. (it was for the better)

go see an optician, these things happen sometimes when people age. they might give you some eye drop to help your vision

Yes THC is a very effective drug for reducing interocular pressure. HOWEVER...., We can not condone illegal activity on this sight. So make sure that your local laws allow the use of marijuana obviously. I'm thinking that is a great big negatory in Texas.

I know just thought I'd throw it out there. MC never seemed like a stoner to me anyway:D

Funny thing, the foggy eye started when my wife started me taking B12 tablets. She says to me to stop 'em and see if it goes away. Wow, it did, go figure. I went to Columbus Eye Associates for a total exam, anyway. Turns out I have cataracts in both eyes. The B12 might have exacerbated it, don't know. BUT, the doc says it can wait until I'm on Medicare next year. I'll turn 65 on November 1. Heck, I might not even need glasses when it's done except for reading. THAT would be WAY cool!

Oh, sorry I've not been around. I come here from time to time, but don't live here like I once did. :D And, I only chat here in the hunting board as things can get contentious in other boards, except for the black powder board. The folks in the black powder board are nice like here. :D
