I was looking at a new SR1911 in 9mm, commander lightweight model. Anyone own one? I kinda liked it, felt good in the hand. Thing that bugged me though was the poor slide to frame fit - as in the slide slightly hanging over the back of the frame. Unfortunately this was the only one they had in 9mm so I couldn't compare it to another one but was curious of anyone here has one and if it has the same issue. The 45 lightweight seemed to match up fine.

I've seen other 1911s with minor fit issues like this and doesn't lead me to believe it won't function properly, but if I'm spending the money on a 1911 you'd think it'd be fit a little better. Still interested in one, but might have to look for a different one.

I have 2 9mm 1911's

A Rock Island and Taurus, both have given years/rounds of flawless sevice and the fit and finish is good especially in the SS Taurus.
I use kimber mags at about 20 bucks each and highly recommend.

Life is too short to put up with sloppy workmanship.

I have the SR1911 9mm, the fit up seems as good or better as my other 1911s. Haven't shot it much, but seems real accurate and soft shooting.

I've had my SR1911 9mm for a couple of months now. Wonderful pistol, fit and finish seem to be as good or better than any other 1911. Probably 400+ rounds of every type and bullet weight without a single malfunction. And accurate enough for me! Seems to like 124 gr rounds the best. Or that could just be my perception.

It rattles a little like most 1911s. But the fit on mine, particularly slide to frame as you mention, is superb.

I'd go look at a different one. Honestly, I think it's a superb pistol in every respect. And one I plan on enjoying for a long time.

I don't have the Ruger, but I do have 2 Springfield 1911's in 9mm and I think I'm in love. For around the same price I'd look for one. I have the 5" RO and the 4" RO Champion.

I had a Springfield Loaded in 9mm for a couple of years, nice gun for sure. I don't own a Ruger at the moment, so that's why I was looking at them.

wait wait wait... Ruger is making 9mm SR1911s? are you trying to send me to the poor house?

Yes, me too. I have the SR1911 Light Weight Commander in .45 ACP and love it. But the 9mm would be just right for so many things. So, far just a want, but I feel a need coming on.

One followed me home the other day - I'd been eyeballing it for a couple of weeks (already had their SR1911 .45).
I sure wish they had made it a double-stack. If it was, it would have followed me home first time I laid eyes on it!

I'm planning on buying one when I come across one that's cosmetically perfect.

hmm... ,low recoil, 20 cents per round ammo, accurate, same size as normal commander 1911... don't know why anyone would want that...

I've had one for a couple months. Over on the one Ruger forum there is a long thread about these fairly new SR1911 9mm's. I've only had mine to the range once. Ruger has replaced the factory supplied Checkmate International magazines twice. After 4 bad magazines they wanted the gun back. They went through it said everything was right.
They claim to have fired 45 rounds of Black Hills ammo with no stoppages.
When I got the gun back from Ruger it had magazines 5&6 replacements. I've been having problems physically getting around so I haven't taken it back out to run through the paces.
What a couple of the magazines were doing. If I could get the fully loaded magazine started in the magazine well which was iffy it was hard to get the magazine to lock in with the slide closed. Then I had a couple that weren't to bad to get started in the magazine well. They would feed the chamber with no problem but as it was feeding the chamber it was releasing a 2nd round out of the magazine. When I dropped the magazine a loose round would fall out of the magazine well or port.

In the thread on the Ruger forum it was discussed that the factory supplied magazine are 9 rnd and that's probably putting one round to many. I wish I had thought about trying it with 8 rounds. I believe before that came up my gun was already in Prescott maybe not.
I've since bought 3 of the 10 rnd Wilson Combat Elite magazines. Hopefully when it made it's trip to Ruger it was corrected. It is a nice gun and when there isn't a malfunction it shoots pretty good. I have three of the SR1911's in 45 ACP.
The full size Gov't, a CMD and the CMD LW. I've had zero problems with them although none of them have been shot very much..

Ruger does not seem to get the magazines right on the 1911 platform. On my .45 ACP light weight, it likes all of the mags that I had with my other 1911's but is just not reliable with the two Ruger supplied mags.

Or, he could just find another SR1911 9mm that doesn't have the misfit issue. QA isn't perfect at any manufacturer. Bad eggs can and do slip through.

well I went to the one place I can't stand to be in anymore, but just so happens to have the best selection of handguns in town, I won't say the name but it rhymes with sportsmans whorehouse. they had the 9mm commander. initial impressions from handling it and dry firing it.
it has an awesome trigger
it has a super short sight radius when you're used to GI length 1911s.
it's pretty light weight.
the gun rattles a little when you shake it.

not sure if I would rush out to buy this one as I already have a very nice 1911 that I got for far less than what the whorehouse was listing these for. perhaps if some of my other LGS get them in and let them go on sale I might jump at one, but really, I've got 9 other 9mms right now and one other 1911 so it has a ton of overlap where it would pretty much just be a range toy for me.

Every 9mm full-size 1911 I've ever encountered has had both of these issues.

There are two ways to deal with the first: One is to just load to one less round than full capacity. The other is to lock the slide back before inserting the full mag. This issue ought to resolve itself as the mag springs break in. HINT: When you get a new mag, stuff it to the gills and put it in your sock drawer (or similar out of the way place) and let it sit for a couple of days. For what it is worth, your ten-round mags will be even harder to seat when fully loaded than the nine-rounders. Locking the slide back before inserting the first mag has become sort of a habit by now, and I don't notice the issue anymore.

The second issue is not considered a problem. "They all do that." My mod-Kimber will do it when using Checkmate or Kimber-branded Checkmate 9 round mags. I have not seen it with the Wilson gen 2 ETM, McCormick XP or Tripp Cobra ten-round mags. My Colt always does it, without regard to which mag is used. In any case, both guns operate flawlessly otherwise. I just have to remember there will likely be a live round to chase down if I remove the magazine before it is empty.

I picked up a Sr1911 9 mm Wed hope to get out to fire it soon. If anyone else is interested I tried all the 9 mm mags I had on hand Tripp,Wilson,Checkmate and Act. Of the15 or so mags I have only the Act mags would not drop freely. The Act mags came with the S&W 9 mm Pro series IIRC.

Hey guys I goofed, looked over at 9 mm mags at Midway and the 2 mags I have that won't drop free are Metalform sorry for the confusion.

I've looked at a couple other Ruger 9mms at different stores, the fit and finish was much better on the other ones I've seen. They do have nice triggers.
