Just ordered some handgun magazines I've been meaning to buy for a while. Figured I better do it now just in case we have a panic and I can't get them later. Wincing a bit at the price (the Mec-Gars not so much, but the HKs...ouch!) and appreciating my revolvers all the more!

I've slowly been stocking up as I can, on anything firearms related really. Just ordered some Tripp mags for my 9mm Range Officer actually

Yep. Rather than contributing to ammo panic-buying, stocking up on accessories -- mags, parts, springs, etc. -- for guns one already owns is probably about our most prudent move ...

Yeah, I bought a few Sig mags recently and even though I hunted down the best prices and bought on sale I still had trouble clicking the buy button. I see no reason why mags cost so much other than they can charge you what the want. Your pistol won't work without them.

I too am very happy I'm primarily a revolver guy.

I ordered 5 mags today. Yeah, HK mags wreck the wallet. Got two Beretta 92 mags and three P30SK mags. Probably should have got some VP9 mags too, but I'm going over seas this month. Better save the dollars.

Forgot to mention I picked up two LC9 mags for my girl friend's gun too.

Good idea! I stocked up on all of my magazines years ago when talk about banning or limiting magazine capacity was the hot topic of the day.

My tally was three Mec-Gars for my P226 and two for my CZ P01 (Midway has Mec-Gars on sale), plus two each for my 9mm USP Compact and .40 P30 and one of those 33-round stick magazines for my G17. I try to have at least four magazines for each gun.

I got some P-mags for the AR. I needed them anyway since I am building a new AR (and I like to have a few mags specifically for each gun). I thought that I might as well get them now and not have to worry about any potential panic.

I think of it less as panic buying and more of just moving up my time table a bit. Good price and free shipping didn't hurt either.

I got some more mags three weeks ago. I got some Mec-Gars from 44mag.com and my local gun store had P-Mags cheaper than anywhere on line. I got only what I needed, I didn't want to feed a frenzy.

Has anyone been able to find Sig mags for less than $39.99? I sure can't and would like to, really. $40 is just too much for me especially when I can get good quality 1911 mags for under $10 each. I have a P320.

Mec-Gar magazines are just as good as SIG factory magazines and half the price.

Which Sig? There are some phosphate OEM P226 9mm mags made by Mec-Gar floating around in the $20 each range. They don't have a brand on them, but they're marked as made in Italy.

Thank you. Yeah, I should have mentioned which pistol. I'm looking for magazines for the P320.

It's been said that the Mec Gars were the more reliable - at least among the legacy SIG P-series guns. I've read a few reports of isolated bad springs on factory magazines, but I personally haven't had any problems with the ones made by Checkmate. They're very close to the Mec-Gars, and they'll take the same Wolff replacement spring if you ever need to repair them. I also had one inadvertently loaded for a year that worked fine and still has good spring tension. At this point, I think the Checkmate magazines are fine.

I've also found the Mec-Gar 18 round P-226 Magazines or the OEM 15 rounders made by them to be very reliable, as have all the Mec-Gars I've ever used in anything.

Sig quality in general is not what it was. Mec Gar makes excellent mags.

HK mags are absolutely some of the best, most reliable mags made and always have been. You can find many of them around $30 if you shop around.

Boy now that the election is over and the results are what they are, I almost feel like I dropped money I didn't need to........... almost. They were purchases I've been meaning to make for the last year or so, I just kept finding more important uses for the money. Oh well. Now I don't have to think about it any more.

I like having 4-6 magazines on hand for all my guns.

Six is a minimum. Buying some now is a good investment, because any number of factors might make them more expensive or unavailable in the future. Just a few years ago, European FAL magazines were everywhere for $10 new, half that for used surplus. Now if you find them, they're $30 each. So the general rule is figure how many you need and add a couple more to account for wear, loss, or breakage.

Back in the early 90s I was shooting a S&W 745 in USPSA and pins and steel. People though I was nuts when they heard what the magazines cost for that gun (when you could even find some).
