Any suggestions for powder and charge weight in 16" Trapper barrel. I'm looking for a fast burning powder to get all the speed I can. I've considered handgun powders but they scare me due to my lack of knowledge. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

30-30 or 30 WCF- 4895 type from IMR or Hodgdon work well. IMR and H are different, using different load data for each. Find data here. http://www.hodgdon.com/ Buy a bullet for the 30-30 that has a flat nose for a tube feed. Any standard larger rifle primer will work. Some will crimp the loaded round, i do not.

The powder that provides the best speed from a 24" barrel will also be the fastest in a 16" barrel as well. Even the slowest powders burn in way less than 16". The longer barrels give the bullet more time to accelerate. Once you get down to 6" and shorter handgun barrels there is some merit to using a faster burning powder.
