There are no Academy stores near me, but they were offering free shipping so I ordered some Remington ammo during Rem's rebate period. Bad move.

I ordered the day the rebate period started, Nov. 24., but the online shipping confirmation showed it ordered on the 23. That won't work for the rebate, so I called two days later, the 26th,, and after several attempts to make contact, and being disconnected a few times, a 45 minute hold time finally got me an agent. I cancelled that order, and reordered 5 boxes of .38Spl. Online confirmation shows the 5 box order and the money total for 5 boxes.

After almost 2 weeks, the shipment shows up today, with 1 box of ammo, and no explanation. I call again, 20 minute wait time to customer service for existing orders. The agent had no idea what happened to the balance of the order, "maybe it's coming from another warehouse", or where the balance of my money is. Hmmm, aren't you the person who is supposed to know?

She puts me on hold again, with a more soothing music selection this time, and disappears for 25 minutes until the connection gets broken.

The rebate has to be postmarked by the 19th, or it's void. Needless to say, I'm not thrilled with Academy or their customer service.

First time I've ever ordered from them, and no doubt the last. Is this generally how they do business?

I have ordered ammo from them a couple times without an issue, other than being a little slow to ship with my most recent order it's been okay. They do seem to use large boxes without padding or fill so the ammo boxes move around which in theory could cause damage in shipment.

Only time I ordered from them my Credit Card numbers was used to buy a Pink Floyd album and was shipped to Mexico. The order was processed in Texas, btw.

Great store to visit IMO, sometimes problematic to order from. They have good sales at times.

I ordered some .22 ammunition from them recently. It was shipped to me in less than a week, no problem at all.

What do you care if you aren't ever going to do business with them again?

Never had a problem with them. I won't say that they are the fastest, but everything arrived as promised.

I'd say most likely because the OP is still missing 4 boxes of ammo and/or some money, and may not be able cash in on the rebate that was offered. If they typically do business like this then the OP is probably questioning if the money or product will ever be seen.

This was a Black Friday promo with a very narrow window (24th-27th). Furthermore all documentation (UPC codes and receipt) has to be post-marked by Dec.19, 2016. This rebate was intended for brick and mortar stores. Purchasing online is possible provided there are no delays in shipment.
Remington is also getting a reputation for not honoring rebates even when they're legitimate.
Cut your loses, cancel the unfilled order and get your money refunded.....

I never anticipated in this day and age of 1 and 2 day product shipments from Amazon and others that a window of over 3 weeks would be insufficient. I also wasn't aware that there are still retail companies which have totally unresponsive customer service.

No idea how Academy's online business survives with the way they treat customers. I sent in an online request for clarification several days ago to their customer service unit and have yet to receive an answer.

I ordered some mags and ammo from them when they announced free shipping. It came thru without any problems. It did arrive spread out in different packages as I recall.

Does Amazon sell ammunition? Apples to oranges......

Not really, Sportsman's Guide and Cabelas sell ammo and they also ship quickly and have excellent, quick, and informed customer service.

So why didn't you order from them? All my ammo comes from SG...no sales tax.

I was a manager at Academy for a while. They used to be a very good company when they were privately owned. Very responsive to customer complaints and concerns. They are still a great store to shop at, but with the way you have described your online experience, I'd never buy online from them again. It's a damn shame you can't get a real person on the phone to resolve the issue.

Just got a message from Fedex through their delivery notification program I'm signed up with, not Academy, that the balance of the order will be delivered tomorrow.

Academy has still not responded to my correspondence via their customer service contact email as to where my money or the balance of the order was.

This company literally has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. While their retail operation may be fine, I don't recommend anyone ordering anything from them online unless you have a yearning for copious amounts of frustration and angst.

I bought a 24 gun "keep the kids out" safe from them. It was delivered damaged and returned. I was promised a replacement but after 3 weeks it was not provided. Customer service stated there were none in stock. I wanted a safe, not a refund. I got a refund only to find the same safe available in stores & online for $200 more two weeks later. The whole frustrating process took over 7 weeks. It won't happen again.

That's too bad. I ordered an AR-15 buttstock from Academy a month or two ago and was amazed at how fast it got to me. Shipped same day and showed up two days after ordering.

I used to read so often here about how great Academy is and I was really excited to visit one of their stores in Mobile AL when I was working there. Let down... They're okay, but not the berries. Now we have two Academy stores in my city. Things change. For years, there was no Gander Mountain store in my immediate area. Well, that changed as well, and Bass Pro, and Cabelas opened stores, I don't know how all these stores survive in the same immediate area.

Academy has found another way to screw me, very creative. When the other 4 boxes of ammo showed up today, the invoice showed an order date of 12/6, although they were all ordered together on 11/26. The order date of 12/6 does not qualify for the rebate. They arrived almost 3 weeks after they were ordered.

This is the worst. Freaken'. Company. Ever.

Maybe you have a charge date from your bank card that shows when you actually paid for them.

The rebate calls for a sales receipt, which would be the invoice. I'll send in the one valid $5 rebate, and chalk up the other $20 to experience.

Not worth spending 45 minutes on hold only to find they don't have a clue.

They fooled me once, their fault. If I ever buy anything from them again, my fault. But that will never happen.
